Meriel Petersen Obituary

Meriel C. Petersen, age 85, died on Christmas Day 2018 in the home of her daughter, Sonya Hauer.

She was born February 26, 1933 in Maeser, Utah to Lyle Glenn Murray and Marinda Hall. She was the oldest of ten children: Joe (Laraine) Murray, Bob (Mary Ann) Murray, Betty Murray, Bill (Betty) Murray, Deanna (Kent) McCurdy, David Murray, Sara (Rick) Rogers, Marinda (Mac) Ross, and Mary (Levi) Smuin.

She married Jude Hacking and was blessed with five children: Mitch (Lisa) Hacking, Susan (Brad) Horrocks, Rod Hacking, Shara (Craig) Buttars, Sonya (Rod) Hauer.

She later married Mel Petersen.

She has ten grandchildren and 29 great grandchildren with two on the way.

Meriel loved music and shared her talent for singing at various functions all over the valley. She was asked to teach singing at the elementary school while she was in high school. She played the violin as well. Her talent didnt end with music though. She also loved sports and was a catcher on the girls softball team.

Meriel worked at the Newton Brothers Saddle Company and for many years worked in the ASCS office for Lyle Taylor. She owned and successfully managed the A and W Drive In where her children also worked with her and made many memories car hopping and flipping hamburgers. In Alpine, Utah she worked as an estate caretaker with Mel. Watching the many different varieties of beautiful birds feed at their huge bird feeder right outside the window was one of her favorite pastimes! Binoculars sat on the window sill so she could watch the deer and other wildlife as it came venturing into the yard as well. The kids and grandkids loved going to visit in Alpine to be in the mountains, go sleigh riding, horse back riding, hiking and enjoy grandmas yummy cooking! She had many friends and if you got her laughing too hard, she would shoot peas out her nose!

She deeply cared for her children and grandchildren and loved their visits and spending time with them.

Meriel was proceeded in death by her son, Rod, her mother and father as well as an infant sister, Betty, brothers, David and Joe, and sister-in-law, Betty.
