It is with great sadness that the family of Stanley J. Gordon, an honorable and gentle man, announces his passing after a yearlong battle with multiple myeloma. He passed away at home in Vernal, Utah, on January 4, 2019, at the age of 70.
Born in American Fork, Utah, on May 14, 1948, Stan grew up in the Olmsted area of Orem near the mouth of Provo Canyon. He graduated from Orem High School and earned his degree from Brigham Young University. He served a mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in the West Spanish-American Mission (laboring primarily in California).
He married Nora Rodriguez, and they had four beautiful children; and later divorced.
On August 7, 1987, he married Ellen Hamilton, with whom he shared 31 years before his passing.
After a brief career in the Air Force, he transitioned to a career working for Utah Power and Light. He worked for Deseret Power for 29 years, primarily as plant manager. Stan enjoyed serving the public as a member of the board of the Uintah Transportation Special Service District and vice-chair of the Uintah County Republican Committee. He loved being outside riding his four wheelers and playing with his tractor, which he put to good use plowing the roads and driveways for his neighbors. He also had fun taking trips to Mexico with Ellen.
He is survived by his wife, Ellen; his children, Stanley (Kenzie, Wellington, FL), Brian (Kelli, Vernal, UT), Kristie (Cory, Littleton, CO), and Alan (Melanie, Rexburg, ID); stepsons Jason (Adriana, Corona, CA) and Joey Hamilton (Bellingham, WA); 15 of his grandchildren; brother J.D Gordon.; and sister Janice Castillo.
He was preceded in death by his father, Junious Gordon; his mother, Helen Johnson; his sister Bettylou Bean; his brother Richard Gordon; and his grandson Braydon Gordon.
