Boyd Redden Obituary

Boyd J Redden passed away at his home on September 24, 2021 at the age of 90. Boyd was born on May 25, 1931 to Reva Carrell Redden and Grant Olsen Redden in Upalco, Utah. He graduated from Altamont High School and received a scholarship to attend Utah State Agricultural College (now known as Utah State University). After completing his first year of college, he entered the United States Army and was assigned to the Signal Corps. While on furlough from training at San Luis Obispo he returned home and proposed to the love of his life, Arva Marie Tanner. She waited for him while he finished his tour in Korea. Two months after completing his military service, they were married and sealed for time and all eternity in the Manti Utah Temple on March 22, 1955.

They returned to Logan Ut where Boyd completed his schooling in Agricultural Education. He began his career teaching at Jordan High School in Salt Lake City. A few years later, he had the opportunity to begin teaching elementary school at Hilltop Elementary in Layton Ut. He discovered that teaching elementary aged students was his passion and he loved knowing he was able to influence the future of his students. In 1968, Boyd and Arva decided to move to Vernal where they wanted to raise their family. He continued teaching there until he retired in 1996. He was a beloved teacher at both the Naples & Ashley Elementary schools.

While he was teaching, he spent a few summers working in the oilfield industry and for a couple of years he owned and operated "Utah's Largest Laundromat". He enjoyed these endeavors as it gave him opportunities to expand his knowledge and interests and to work with other members of the community.

Boyd was a proud member of the American Legion Post #11 and served for several years as post commander. He was always an active member of his community and of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints where he served in many capacities. He and Arva served together for several years as temple workers in the Vernal Utah Temple.

Boyd and Arva shared many interests and spent time camping, hunting, fishing, square dancing and traveling. They were always each other's top priority and loved spending time together. Since Arva's passing in 2007, Boyd has looked forward to reuniting with her.
Boyd is survived by his children Lyle Boyd (Alice) Redden, Frances (Steven) Beckstrom, Gary (Karen) Redden, and Rashelle (Louis) Richardson; his daughter-in-law Alisa Thacker, 14 grandchildren, 39 Great Grandchildren with 2 additional ones on the way, and 2 Great-Great Grandchildren with one more on the way.

Boyd is preceded in death by his loving wife, Arva, his parents, his in-laws Frank & Pearl Tanner, his sister Lois Marie Hassad, and brother-in-law Ira Hassad.
