Laneeda (Williams) Lucero

Laneeda Williams Lucero left this remarkable life on Wednesday, April 5, 2023, at 2:37 AM surrounded by her family in Lehi, UT. Laneeda died after a long battle with a horrible monster named Alzheimer's.

Laneeda came into this amazing world and made it beautiful on Tuesday, June 19, 1962, in Vernal, Utah. She was the first born to Larry and JoDean Williams and the big sister to 4 mischievous brothers who needed a well-behaved, older sister to keep them in line.

Laneeda had a smile and laugh that brightened every room, every heart. She was kind and accepting of everyone and always- ALWAYS- ready to share a smile and a gentle word.

Laneeda graduated from Uintah High School where she was an Honor Student, captain of the high school Drill Team, member of the debate team, and homecoming queen. If there was a party, dance, or get-together, you could find Laneeda there living it up.

Laneeda studied Communications at Brigham Young University, graduating in Public Relations. While studying at the "Y", she met her husband-to-be, Jim, and married him on June 9, 1983, in the Salt Lake City LDS Temple. Laneeda and Jim enjoyed a beautiful, storybook-like courtship which continued for nearly 40 years of romance, trust, and excitement.

Laneeda had her first child, Ryan, while a student and employee at BYU. Despite her busy schedule, she demonstrated the ability to juggle many balls at once, something she perfected over the years.

Laneeda was Jim's life partner. Together they traipsed across the country, working and living in Provo, UT; Midland, MI; Indianapolis, IN; Bountiful, UT; Plano TX and Lehi, UT. Over this time Laneeda had three more children, Casey, Chase and Sydney. After a short career as a freelance writer and editor, Laneeda chose to be a homemaker to raise her children and be actively involved in their lives and upbringing. She served on several PTA boards, as PTA President, team mom and a myriad of other civic and community positions. She was interested and involved in making her community excellent and an ideal place for her family.

Laneeda was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She loved the Church and strived to bless others through her faith and service. She served in many organizations in her wards and stakes including Primary, Young Women's and Relief Society. She also served a service mission in Dallas, TX. Laneeda shared her testimony often through word and action. She loved the Savior and demonstrated that every single day.

Laneeda was active and vivacious. She loved to throw a good party, bake the most delicious treats, hang with her girlfriends, read, have fun with her family, and travel with Jim and the kids. Her travels included Tahiti, Thailand, Hong Kong, Venezuela, Hawaii, Mexico, Colombia, Panama, Guatemala, Costa Rica, Belize, Australia, Cuba, the Caribbean, France, the UK, The Netherlands, and around and around the good ol' USA. Laneeda had a saying when the weather was gloomy and threatened to ruin a good travel day: "Enjoy the rain." This little phrase became her travel motto and, eventually, the Lucero family motto.

Laneeda was diagnosed with early-onset Alzheimer's on January 27, 2010, at the age of 47. The diagnosis, this certain death sentence, came like a ton of bricks. But ever the optimist, Laneeda promised to "beat this thing". While she did not beat the disease, per se, she did overcome its horrible influence by spreading her joy and loveliness to all with whom she came in contact. Despite the effects of the disease, she "enjoyed the rain" every single day.

Till we meet again, dear mother, wife, grandmother, daughter, sister, aunt, friend. We love your guts (LYG).

Laneeda is survived by her husband, James Paul Lucero, her children Ryan James (Janelle) Lucero, Seattle, WA; Casey Lucero (Todd) Matheny, South Jordan, UT; Chase Michael (Kimberly) Lucero, Lehi, UT; and Sydney Lucero (Brandon) Bledsoe, Lehi, UT; and their 11 grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her father, Larry Wayne Williams, and is survived by her mother, JoDean Slavensky Anderson Williams, and brothers Lonnie, Gregg, David & Keven.

Services and Celebration of Life for Laneeda will be Saturday April 15, 2022 at 11:00am at the Eaglecrest LDS Chapel (700 W 2600 N Lehi, Utah). Visitation & Viewings will be held Friday, April 14 from 6:00PM ~ 8:00PM at Anderson & Sons Mortuary Lone Peak Chapel (6141 W 11000 N Highland, Utah) and Saturday, from 9:45AM ~ 10:45AM at the church.
