Mickey Steele Obituary
Mickey Deanne Steele was born on October 23, 1942 in Mineral Wells, Texas, to Vondel and Bernice (Olree) Wood. Her formative years were spent in Texas, living among many extended family members. After her parents divorced and Bernice re-married, Mickey moved to Rangely where she, her mom and her step-father, Paul Fox resided. Eventually, the family moved to Kansas, but Mickey returned to Rangely where she graduated from Rangely High School in 1961. Mickey married Harold Roy Steele on May 13, 1961. They had two children, Jesse Steele and Judy (Steele) Allred.
Roy and Mickey, along with Roys parents, Don and Margaret Steele, owned and operated Don H. Steele and Son, a construction company that built roads and locations for the local gas industry. Mickey assisted Roy with books for the business, which allowed her to do the job she loved most of all be a full-time mom. Once Jesse and Judy were raised, Mickey opened her own floral shop, which she operated in Rangely for several years. She also worked for the Rangely Chamber of Commerce and the Rangely Museum.
Mickey was very active in the community while her kids were growing up. She enjoyed riding and showing horses. She was the co-sponsor of the Rangely Junior Saddle Club and assisted the kids with hosting Rangelys first open horse show. She organized Queen try-outs for the Little Buckaroo Rodeo, the Rangely Days Rodeo and the Little Britches Rodeo. She also enjoyed quilting, sewing and cooking.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Harold Roy Steele; both parents, Vondel Wood and Bernice Fox; her step father, Paul Fox; and one half-brother, Paul Glenn Fox.
She is survived by her son, Jesse Steele of Las Animas County; her daughter, Judy, and son-in-law Luke Allred of Rangely, CO; one sister, Sandra Bird of Rock Springs, WY; five grandchildren; seven great grandchildren; and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, family and friends.
Mickey passed away on July 6, 2019 at the age of 76. Services will be held on Wednesday, July 10, 2019, at 11:00 am at the Rangely Christian Church. Interment will follow at the Rangely Cemetery.
