Walter Clarence Fread, age 87 died peacefully surrounded by his family in the Uintah Care Center. Walt was born in Newllano, LA in a share croppers tent to Warren and Vivian Parker Fread on May 17, 1932. Walt had one brother and two sisters. He grew up and went to school in Craig, Colorado where he enjoyed football and wrestling. He left school and joined the Navy where he received his GED. He served four years. Later he married Naomi Acherman from Hayden, Colorado. They had three children: Chuck, Tammy and Terry. They later divorced. Walt remarried and had another daughter, Brenda Lee Fread. He divorced and moved to Casper, Wyoming with his daughter Brenda. He worked at Safeway where he met Lois. They married and he gained seven more children. They have had 45 years together. He was a very good husband, father and grandfather.
Walt worked as a truck driver logging in Wyoming, a milkman in Craig, Colorado, dairy manager in Steamboat, Colorado and at Safeway in Casper, Wyoming. Walt and Lois moved to Vernal in 1975 where he was a milkman for a time, then he went to work at Miller Welding, which later became Airgas. He worked at Airgas for 38 years until he retired after the age of 80. He loved and enjoyed his family, working, hunting and fishing.
He is survived by his wife Lois Fread, 11 children, 20 grandchildren, 26 great-grandchildren and 5 great-great-grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by his parents Warren H. Fread and Vivian Fread Stevens; brothers Warren Fread; sisters Clara May Fread and Dorothy Fread Crabtree; and his daughter Brenda Lee Fread.
Memorial services will be held Sunday, October 13, 2019 at 4:00pm at the Phillips Ashley Valley Funeral Home. Military honors will be held Monday 10:00am at the Phillips Ashley Valley Funeral Home. Honors provided by American Legion Post 11.
