Alburn Dee Atwood died April 7th 2013 in Renton Washington at the age of 87. He was born September 20th 1925 in Vernal, Utah to Andrew David Atwood and Bessie Slaugh. He grew up in the Vernal area where he started a career in farming. He married Louise Stringham in 1944; they are the parents of 6 children. David, Layne (David) Rasmussen, Kathleen, Billie, Janice and Joanne. They have 4 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren. He is the descendant of the pioneers of the Uintah Basin. During his long career in agriculture he brought hundreds of acres of land under cultivation. He homesteaded twice in Wyoming and Idaho and at one time he was responsible for 14,000 acres of irrigated farmland. He had a great love for his family and for nature. He viewed nature with the eye of an artist. He loved to hunt and fish. He held multiple leadership positions in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints including Elder's Quorum President, Sunday School President, Bishop's Counselor, Bishop, and he served on the High Council. He was ordained a Seventy and he served two stake missions. As a senior member of the High Council he was responsible for a multi-regional church welfare farm. At the time of his death he was serving as an Executive Secretary to the Stake Presidency. He was preceded in death by his son David, his daughters Kathleen, Janice and Joanne. He is survived by his wife of 68 years Louise, his daughters Layne (& husband David Rasmussen), Billie Atwood, his grand-children Michael & Nikki Hepworth, Erin & Jacob Stewart, Alise & Tom Christensen and Nathan Rasmussen as well as his 9 great-grandchildren. His funeral will be held in Kent, Washington on Saturday, April the 13th at 11:00AM at the Kentwood Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. The viewing will be held at Ashley Valley Funeral Home at 10:30 AM followed by the graveside service at Maeser Fairview Cemetery in Vernal, Utah on Tuesday the 16th at 11:30AM.
