Austin Gene Merkley

Austin Gene Merkley passed away May 19, 2023, after a courageous battle with cancer. He was diagnosed with Stage 4 melanoma in late 2022 and fought hard everyday after. But, on May 19th his body was no longer able to keep up the fight and he passed away peacefully at Ashley Regional Medical Center. Austin was born to Paul Merkley and Tammy Suddreth on October 6, 1993, in Roosevelt, UT. Austin attended Uintah High school and continued to reside in Vernal until his passing. Most people that met Austin would say he was quiet man, a man of few words. But for those of us who knew him he loved to talk about all things, he was quick witted and had a great sense of humor. He enjoyed spending time with family and friends. Whether it was in the mountains on 4 wheelers, camping, fishing or just hanging out by the campfire. Austin had a great love of TikTok and Youtube, he would spend a great deal of time scrolling and watching his favorite channel Whislin Diesel. He liked to watch Harry Potter and Pirates of the Caribbean. He was a foodie, he loved to eat good food, watch cooking shows and trying out new recipes. During his months of extensive treatment, he never once complained about the great amount of pain and sickness he felt. He never considered anything but fighting as hard as he could to get better. His strength and courage will forever be remembered. Austin is survived by his father Paul (Jen) Merkley, his mother Tammy (Bo) Ellis. his siblings, Tausha (Justin) Richardson, AJ (Mallory) Merkley, and Aaron Merkley, Grandmother Janet Suddreth. Along with many aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by grandparents: Amos and Evanna Merkley, Eugene Suddreth and his beloved dog Tugger. Austin will always be loved and missed. A Celebration of Life will be held Saturday May 27, 2023 at 12Noon at the Phillips Ashley Valley Funeral Home. A visitation for family and friends will be held Saturday 10:45-11:45AM at the Mortuary.
