Betty Marie Lee

Betty Marie (Atwood) Lee, age 68 of Vernal, Utah passed away on Monday, October 13, 2025 with her family by her side.

Betty Marie Atwood Lee was born on November 27, 1956, in Roosevelt, Utah, to Carol Swain Atwood and Dewey Lee Atwood. Betty was the oldest of four children. With her beautiful brown hair and big brown eyes, she had a warmth and presence that connected with everyone she met.

As a young adult Betty dreamed of becoming an EMT, but midway through her schooling, life took a different path. She married Chuck Thunehorst and became a proud mother to twin boys, Rusty and Dusty. Tragically, Dusty passed away shortly after birth and Rusty passed in 2020. Alongside her mother, Betty helped raise her grandson, Brendon until her passing.

Betty had a deep love for the mountains, long family drives, and snuggling her dogs. She found beauty in simple things: sunsets, pretty rocks, and funky jewelry. She shared her creativity through crocheting, embroidery, and acts of kindness.

In her later years she struggled with COPD. She spoke openly about the dangers of smoking and vaping, warning younger generations with compassion and honesty. She often referred to her oxygen tank as her "chain," holding her in place, but never chaining her spirit.

Betty's life was marked by many paths, but those paths always led her home to family. She was endlessly proud of each and every one of them. Her love for our Lord and Savior transformed her life. She faithfully listened to church services online and became the anchor of prayer for her family. Her hunger for God's word and His salvation was an inspiration to all who knew her. She is a beautiful example of a life redeemed.

Betty will be deeply missed, but we rejoice in the knowledge that we will be reunited with her someday in paradise.

She is survived by; Her grandson Brendon Thunehorst, Mother Carol Swain Atwood, Sister Lynnette (Gregg) Shipman, Brother Doyle (Kim) Atwood Brother Dennis (Debbie) Atwood, As well as many other family members

She is preceded in death by; Father Dewey Atwood, Sons Dusty and Rusty Thunehorst and Husband Kelton Lee

Funeral Services for Betty will be held Saturday, October 18, 2025 at 2:00pm with a visitation for family and friends from 11:45am ~ 1:45pm all at the Phillips Ashley Valley Funeral Home. Interment in Vernal Memorial Park.
