Bob A Dalton

Bob A. Dalton was born to Floyd Dalton and Lillian Ruby (Winter) Dalton in Moab, Utah. He passed away on October 13, 2021 at his home with his family. Bob's mother passed away when he was only 11 months old and his grandpa and grandma Winter took him, his brother and sister to raise until his grandma passed away when he was six years old. He tells the story of living on his own until two very special people named Willard and Merle Pugh took him and his brother to raise in Salt Lake City. He was 8 years old. They treated them well and Bob has always said that is where he learned a very strong work ethics that he carried throughout his life. He was a very hard worker and expected the same conduct in others. He said of the Pugh's, "They were two of the most wonderful people. Stern, but always fair, with not a mean bone in their bodies." He stayed with them for 5 years until he got restless and wanted to go to Monticello and live with his Uncle Jim and Aunt Katie Pipkin. He also loved them very much. He joined the US Navy and was a US Navy SeaBee. He was on the USS Hornet Aircraft Carrier in the Western Pacific. Returning home, he married Coleen Gage and they made their home in Monticello, Utah for a short time. He worked in the mines and on oilfield rigs until he went to work in law enforcement for Sheriff Seth Wright and the Farmington, New Mexico Police Department. Deciding he wanted more education they moved to Provo, then to Salt Lake City and Bob received a degree in Chemical and Mining Engineer. He took a job with Boyles Brothers Mining Company. He then moved his family to Chile, South America where he was Superintendent and Construction Engineer for the expansion project at El Teniente Mine for Kennecott Copper, Sewell, Chile. Returning from Chile they moved to Vancouver British Columbia, Canada working for Canadian Mine Service Company supervising structural and mechanical projects. He was sent to South Africa to do consulting services. Returning to the states he owned and operated several successful companies that included drilling, boring, trucking, and consulting in the pipeline industry. Bob was very versatile and could do anything he set his mind to. He was very intelligent and retained everything he read and saw. His friend Al Hunting called him, "a walking encyclopedia." He was a perfectionist, an excellent businessman and leader. He was set in his ways and passionate in his beliefs. True to his friend and family. Very generous and kindhearted. He loved his family and would do anything for them. His greatest pleasure was visits from his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Bob was a true outdoorsman loving to hunt and fish with all his family and friends. One of the highlights in his life was a month-long fishing trip in Canada with his son, Cory and his nephew, Chris. Bob was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Coleen Gage Dalton, their 4 children, Karri Dalton, Denise (Clay) Hacking, Cami (David) Murray, Cory (Gwen) Dalton, 11 Grandchildren, Derrick (Rachel) Hacking, Kendal (Erin) Hacking, Kristin (Kylie) Hacking, Pat (Jessica) Hacking, Jory (Ezmia) Bascom, Bryant (Raquel) Murray, Mitch (Nicole) Murray, Melissa (Tyler) Watkins, Britt (Jennifer) Dalton, Cole Dalton, 28 great-grandchildren, Sister; Irene Bertot, Brother's-in-law, David (Janet) Gage, Ron (Kathy) Gage, Tony Camberlango, sister-in-law; Diane Gage and many loved aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents, grandparents, brother Floyd (Stub) Dalton, father-in-law and mother-in-law; Fay and Barbara Gage, sister-in-law; Karren Camberlango, Brother's-in-law; Norman Gage, Frank Bertot, granddaughter, Nikki Bascom, great-granchildren; Dalton Hacking, Nia Hacking, Kydni Hacking, nephew; Chris Camberlango, nieces; Lori Bertot, and Cindy Wicklham. He will be greatly missed. Funeral services for Bob will be held October 19, 2021 at 11:00am at the Phillips Ashley Valley Funeral Home (410 North 800 West). A visitation for family and friends will be held Monday October 18th from 6pm - 8pm, and Tuesday from 9:45am - 10:45am all at the Phillips Ashley Valley Funeral Home. A viewing will be held in Monticello at the North LDS Chapel next to the temple (347 N 200 W) from 1:00pm - 1:45pm on Wednesday, with Interment to follow at the Monticello Cemetery (632 East 300 South) at 2pm.
