Hugh Carl Butch Stewart passed away surrounded by his loved ones and welcomed into Gods arms along side family on March 30th after a valiant fight with Cholangiocarcinoma cancer. He was born September 26th 1950 in Vernal Utah to Calvin W. Stewart and Dorthy Alyene Dugan Stewart. He married the love of his life, Laurie Ann Pummell, on November 5th 1976, and later solemnized in the Salt Lake City Temple on November 5th 1985. Butch grew up in Jensen, Utah and loved working the farm with his Grandpa Stewart. He truly enjoyed being a farm kid, and everything that went with it. Butch graduated from Uintah High School with the class of 1968. After graduation he worked in the oil field for the next two years. In 1970 he enlisted into the Marine Corps, where he honorably served for the next four years as an aircraft hydrologic mechanic on the F4 phantom II. While in the service, he spent time in California, Hawaii, and Japan. When he returned home from serving in the military he started back to work in the oilfield. Butch met Laurie on December 3rd 1975 and their love story began, and what a love story it was. They were blessed with 6 beautiful children. They made their life in Jensen Utah and Butch continued to work in the oil field. Butch was an active member of 4-H serving on the stock show committee and also served as president. He was a pilar in those barns and bigger than life. Butch spent many years coaching youth athletics. He served as the president of the youth baseball league in Vernal. You would often find him at the baseball fields and on a basketball court. He brought his love of farming to each of his children and some of their favorite memories were down at the corals with dad. Butch spent many successful years in the oil field as a consultant, as well as running several very successful business. This eventually took them to Grand Junction Colorado. Butch loved what he did and he was good at it. Butch and Laurie built their dream home, where Butch enjoyed spending his time with his wonderful grandchildren who he adored. He loved playing outside in the pool, playing games, and of course teasing ,and enjoying their time together. Butch took pride in his family, and we all knew how much we were loved. Butch is survived by his loving wife Laurie Ann , his children Ali (Jeff) Atwood Lubbock Tx, Shelbie (Matt) Jackson, Vernal Ut, Colt (Ashley) Stewart Erie Co, Carly (Chris) Kennedy Grand Junction and 13 grandchildren and 6 Great Grand Children. Butch is proceeded in Death by his parents, Calvin and Dorthy Stewart, Father and mother in Law Cecil and Bulia Pummell, Daughters Amy Johnson and Liberty Stewart , brother Clay Stewart, brother in laws Terry Pummell and Bradly Pummell. Memorial services will be held Tuesday, April 6, 2021 at 11:00 a.m. at the Western Park. A visitation of family and friends will be held Monday evening from 6-8p.m. at the Ashley Valley Funeral Home and Tuesday 9:45-10:45 a.m. at the Western Park.
