In Loving Memory of Carol Jo Spaur
Born: May 24, 1937 - Passed: March 5, 2025
With deep sadness, we announce the passing of Carol Jo Spaur, who left us on March 5, 2025, at 87. Carol was born in Denver, Colorado to Phillip Petrillo and Mary Conzone.
Carol was born on May 24, 1937, in Denver, Colorado. Carol started working early in her life, starting in the 8th grade where she held various jobs to help provide for her family. After getting married and having her three daughters, she began working in Russell Stover's candy factory. Later, she went to work in the King Soopers bakery where, after her divorce, she met the love of her life, Donald "Max" Spaur. They were married on August 16, 1982, and enjoyed 43 years together. Shortly after getting married, Carol and Max, having earned enough years in the bakery, decided to retire and move to Arizona. They only stayed in Arizona briefly before moving to Las Vegas, Nevada. They found a home and lived there for 12 years. Both of them worked in casinos and enjoyed living in the city of Las Vegas. In 1999, they decided to really retire and bought a home in Pahrump, Nevada. Carol and Max lived the life they wanted in the southwest desert of Nevada. Carol loved Nevada's dry, hot climate, and they built a good life there. After 24 years, they realized they needed more help, so they moved to live with Carol's daughter Ann and her husband Jeff in Mustang, Oklahoma in April 2023.
After a year or so, both of them needed more care and assistance, so with the family, they decided it would be best if they moved to Rangely Colorado where Sandy and John live, which they did in August of 2024. Their new home was an apartment in the Eagle Crest Assisted Living Center. After getting adjusted to living at Eagle Crest, they settled in and found a balance of independence and assistance as they needed. They developed friendships with the staff and other residents of the facility. In early December, Carol's health began to deteriorate even further. She was not able to do the things she needed to be independent. After much discussion with her doctors and the family, it was decided she would be better taken care of at the long-term care wing at the hospital across the street. Despite being in pain the majority of the time, she could be kidding around with the staff, helping to distract her from the pain. Unfortunately, the pain and fatigue finally overtook her, and she passed away on Wednesday, March 5, 2025.
Carol was proceeded in death by her daughter Dina Petrillo, her father Phillip Petrillo, her mother Mary Conzone, her sisters, Sandra Hinds, Judy Lint, Donna Hinds, and Maryanne Hinely, and her brother Richard Hinds.
Carol is survived and missed by her loving husband Donald Spaur, affectionately known as Max. She leaves behind her two daughters, Sandy (John) Payne, Ann (Jeff) Johannes, her grandchildren, Christopher Heuschkel, Jennifer (Matt) Noel, Jason (Amy) Payne, her great grandchildren, Caleb Noel, Colton Noel, Ryliegh Payne, Chloe Noel, and Kambrie Payne, her sister Linda (John) Tortorici and her brother Fred (Kathy) Hinds. Carol is also survived by many nieces, nephews, and friends.
No funeral services are scheduled at the request of Carol. Thank you to everyone for your thoughts and prayers for Carol and family.
