Cleopatra McRae

Pat McRae, 69, of Vernal, Utah passed away August 10, 2013 surrounded by her family, due to complications arising from pneumonia.

Pat was born September 18, 1943 to Ernest and Virginia Winkler in Bluebell, Utah. She graduated from Uintah High School where she exceeded academically.

Pat married George D. Chew in 1963 and they owned and operated Pool Creek Ranch in Echo Park. They had four children - Shaunda, Rial, Darwin and Parker.

Pat married Robert M McRae in 1980. Through him she formed her love of the law. After working as a paralegal she chose to continue her education at Weber State University as well as the Utah State University. This education led her to become the first Vernal City Justice Court Judge. She held her position on the bench for 17 years. She was well respected and admired by her colleagues and friends.

She served on Dinamites and multiple boards within the Utah Justice System. She also served in various positions for the National Park Service, the Bureau of Indian Affairs and the Uintah County Sherriff's Office. She loved reading, painting, poetry, traveling, hiking, gardening, serving her community and so much more. Grandma Honey enjoyed outings anywhere with her family, who she loved so much and was extremely proud of.

Pat is survived by her children Shaunda Smuin, Rial (Darci) Chew, Darwin Chew, Parker (Angie) Chew; Grandchildren Tausha, Candace (Tim), Cade, Chantel, Alexis, Kaylor, Cody; Great-Grandchildren Derek, Maddison, Jackson, Cora; Siblings Dennis (Lou) Winkler, Rachel (Gary) Gierhart, Verona (Steve) Rasmussen, Don (Liudmila) Winkler, Ruth Ann (Glendon) Merrell, Duane Winkler and many nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband Bob, and brother, Doug Winkler.

Graveside services will be held Thursday, August 15, 2013 at 11a.m. at the Maeser Fairview Cemetery located at 400 S 3500 W, Vernal, UT.
