Vernal

Dallas Harold Merrell of Vernal, Utah died on Thursday, May 25, 2023, at the University of Utah Hospital in Salt Lake City, Utah. He was born on July 9, 1932, in Vernal, Utah, on his dad's birthday. His parents were Harold Angus Merrell and Nellie Marie Harrison Merrell. Dallas grew up in the Naples area. Dallas enlisted in the Coast Guard and served for 3 years. Following his service in the military he served a mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints in the Northern States Mission. On February 12, 1958, Dallas went on a blind date with the lovely Marilyn Wills. He had the audacity to kiss her on their first date, which swept them both off their feet. They were married on June 16, 1958, in the Salt Lake Temple, just four months and four days after that first date. Their love and devotion for each other have been unending since. Dallas and Marilyn began to build their home in Naples, Utah which was filled with a cute girl and a bunch of rambunctious boys, hard work, love, and the gospel of Jesus Christ. Dallas worked as a mail carrier for most of his working career. He was an avid deer hunter. He also enjoyed farming. Dallas was a faithful member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints and has served in various callings through the years. He said, "I took assignments in the church as they were given to me. You can gain a testimony and grow in a good way by taking assignments you are given." Dallas lived the gospel honestly and wholeheartedly. Dallas and Marilyn served in the Washington, Tacoma Mission from 1994 to 1995. When the Vernal Temple was built, they were ordinance workers there for several years. Marilyn passed away in 2013. Dallas has been missing her for 10 years. They are finally together again. Dallas will be sorely missed by those he left behind, which include, his daughter Sally (Ray) Galloway, sons Vance Merrell, Roger (Lana) Merrell, Jason (Korene) Merrell, and Darin (Barbara) Merrell, 16 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren, brother Boyd Merrell, and sister Sandy (Frank) Stephens. He was preceded in death by his wife, parents, brothers Marvin Merrell and Calvin Merrell. The family would like to thank all those who have faithfully served Dallas in so many ways.
