Darryl Knop, age 74, passed away peacefully in his home on November 17, 2021 surrounded by his family. Darryl was born in Pratt, Kansas on January 2, 1947 to George and Lillian Knop. The family moved to Colorado where he graduated high school in 1965 and attended Lamar Jr. College before entering the United States Army in 1968. He was stationed near AN KH Vietnam where he was assigned to the 84th artillery unit. He was honorably discharged in 1974. After being discharged from the Army he returned home to Lamar, Colorado. He later met his wife Rose Garcia while working in the oilfield for her uncle Dale. They were married at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Las Animas, Colorado on June 23, 1973. In 1979 Darryl and Rose moved to Vernal, Utah where they raised their family. Darryl continued his career in the oilfield where he worked from the bottom up to the higher ranks and finally become a consultant. Later ending his career operating his own consulting business. Darryl loved the outdoors, a passion which he and his wife shared with their children and grandchildren. His hobbies included hunting, fishing, waterskiing, snowmobiling, riding his motorcycle and flying. He was especially happy working on the family farm. To him the farm wasn't just a piece of land to be worked, but a legacy for his children and grandchildren to continue and pass down. Darryl is survived by his wife Rose Knop of Vernal, Utah, daughter Dendra "Shaije" Garcia-Lorimor of Vernal, Utah, son Nathan Knop of Vernal, Utah, son Donnie (Courtney) Knop of Vernal, Utah, grandson Skylan (Tristan) Rarick of Vernal, Utah, grandson Braxton Knop of Vernal Utah, brother Mike (Carol) Knop of Meridian Idaho, sister Pam (Dave) King of Denver, Colorado, sister Sherri (John) Parker of Ft. Smith, Arkansas, sister Lori (Craig) Scott of Ft. Myers, Florida, aunts: Bonnie Seidel, Marilyn Stewart, Vivian Locke, Marge Knop, and many cousins, nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, George and Lillian Knop. Funeral Mass will be held Thursday, December 2, 2021 at the Saint James Catholic Church. A visitation for family and friends will be held Wednesday evening from 6-8p.m. at the Phillips Ashley Valley Funeral Home. A rosary will be held Thursday 10:15-10:45am at the church. Interment will be in the Rockpoint Cemetery.
