David Scott “Dave” Hellstrom Sr., 70, passed away peacefully at home on September 13, 2026, in Vernal, Utah. He was born on November 15, 1955, in Murray, Utah, to Willard Anthon and Jean Lenore Stowe Millet Hellstrom.
Dave graduated from Jordan High School in Sandy, Utah. Dave was married to Jennifer Roth for several years before they later divorced.
Throughout his life, Dave worked in construction, sold fire trucks with his brother in the 1990s, worked at All Quality Diesel and Diesel Service, and spent several years with Kenworth Trucking before retiring.
Dave enjoyed skiing when he was younger, road trips, long Sunday drives, Moab, air shows, BBQs, hobby stores, and living a simple life while reminiscing about history and the “good ol’ days,” which always included a good story about drag racing.
He had a special love for cats and always had at least two throughout his life. He loved airplanes, helicopters, fire trucks, police cars, trains, military aviation, construction vehicles, and semi-trucks, and he collected die-cast models of many of them. Dave was very organized and collected quite a bit over the years, often because he saw value in things others might overlook.
He was also known for his hilarious one-liners, unforgettable laugh, and, above all, his stubborn spirit.
But to his children, Dave was much more than the things he loved. He passed down a love of building and fixing things, exploring, animals, road trips, airplanes, BBQs, and, of course, his stubbornness. The memories of Hart’s gas station, homemade ice cream, countless Sunday mountain drives, adventures, and the many stories shared over the years will be treasured forever.
Over the years, his son, David Jr., was a constant source of love, support, and care for his dad. David stood by him through the challenges of his later years, helping care for him and making sure he was never alone. His devotion, patience, and willingness to always be there for his dad meant more than words can express. The time they shared—including the everyday moments, conversations, laughter, and challenges—will always remain a special part of Dave’s story and a lasting reminder of the bond between a father and son.
Dave’s mind remained sharp until the end, and he fought hard to stay with us. In his final days, he was surrounded by his children and grandchildren and was able to tell them how much he loved them. Even then, his sense of humor remained. True to Dave, one of his final requests was to call “Ghostbusters.”
Dave is survived by his children, Jeremiah Roth (Renee), Natalie Jenkins (Jerrad), David Jr., Alicia Tischner (Craig), and Ashley Collins (Jesse), and his 11 beloved grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his cousin Kelly, and other family members and friends with whom he shared a special bond, especially his father.
The family would like to extend heartfelt thanks to Good Shepherd Home Care & Hospice and Ashley Valley Funeral Home for their care, compassion, and support.
We will miss Dave deeply, but we find comfort in knowing that he is at peace and free from the struggles of this life. We imagine him having a glorious reunion with his loved ones, catching up on everything he missed, and talking about the “good ol’ days.”
We love you, Dad. Give Heavenly Father a huge hug for all of us, and please watch over your kids and grandkids. God be with you until we meet again.
At Dave’s request, he will be cremated, and there will be no formal funeral service. A celebration-of-life BBQ will be held at a later date. Once the details are finalized, all who knew and loved Dave will be welcome to join us in celebrating his life, sharing memories, telling stories, and, fittingly, enjoying some good food together.
