Devere Ostler passed away on February 12, 2025, at the age of 89. Devere was born on January 30, 1936, to William Jonathan and Ruth Lloyd Ostler he was the 2nd son of 5 boys. On October 30, 1954 he married his first wife LuJean Jennings in Bridgeland Utah they were blessed with 3 children, Troy (Nancy) Ostler, Lory (Danny) Cook, Cindy (Lane) Scott, After LuJean's death he married Sally Gardner on August 31, 1996. Devere was known by many as "The Telephone Man". He started working as a lineman for Mountain Bell at the age of 22. He spent his days riding his horse "Peanut", through Nine Mile Canyon checking and repairing phone lines. He later became an installer, pulling phone wire through homes and businesses. Devere spent his career working for the "Phone Company". Later retiring from A T & T. After retiring, he started his ownbusiness, Ostler Telephone Service, some of his grandchildren's fondest memories are crawling under houses helping him pull wire. If you ever had issues with your phone, you knew to call Devere Ostler. Devere and his first wife LuJean, had three children, 10 grand children and 25 great grand children. After LuJean's death, Devere married Sally Gardiner, gaining five more children and 17 more grand children. Devere coached little league baseball, forming bonds with multiple generations of boys, many of which were still in contact with him in recent months. Devere held many church callings and could be found cooking breakfast at the Boy Scout fund raiser on Pioneer Day. Devere enjoyed gardening, growing a large, bountiful garden to share with family and friends year after year. He valved having a beautiful yard and often mowed the widow ladies lawns. Devere was a sports fan, especially watching the UTAH JAZZ. You could be sure a sports game would be playing on the television if you stopped by his house. He loved his family dearly. Devere prioritized extra curricular events his children, grand children and great grand children participated in. If he knew about it, he was there, supporting dance concerts, piano recitals, baseball games and more. He always made sure his grandkids had more than they needed, donut runs, Polar King burgers, ice cream, and soda we regular treats for them. Many memories involved grandpa taking the kids fishing, swimming, shopping, spliting fire wood, teaching them to garden, and eating out, g randpa and grandma's house was a regular hang out and place for family get togethers. Devere and Sally served a mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. This mission was served in the Provo Utah mission, working with the full time missionaries. Devere is survived by his wife Sally Ostler, Troy (Nancy) Ostler, Lory (Danny) Cook, Cindy (Lane) Scott all of Vernal, Laura Hodges, Albuquerque, New Mexico, Bruce Gardiner, Las Vegas, Nevada Doug (Diane) Gardiner, Ceder City, Utah, Linda (Kyle) Walker, Wisconsin, Karen (Brad) Foley, Farmington, New Mexico, Brothers John Ray Ostler, Herriman, Utah and Gene Ostler, Roosevelt, Utah. Devere is preceeded in death by his first wife LuJean Jennings Ostler, grandson Randy Lee Ostler, Parents Bill and Ruth Ostler brothers, Monroe Lloyd Ostler and Royal Lee Ostler. Funeral services will be held Monday, February 17, 2025 at 11:00am at the Glines 3rd Ward LDS Chapel by the Temple, (475 West 100 South). Visition and viewing will be held Sunday from 6:00pm ~ 8:00pm at the Phillips Ashley Valley Funeral Home and Monday from 9:45am ~ 10:45am at the church. Interment in the Maeser Fairview Cemetery.
