Donald Clement

April 27, 1934 — May 1, 2022

Vernal

Donald W Clement, 88, of Vernal Utah, passed away at home on May 01, 2022. He was surrounded by his family and loved ones and died of natural causes. Don was born in Magna, Utah and moved to Fairview, Utah at a young age. There he grew up on the "farm" with his older brothers and sisters who said he was very spoiled being the baby of the family. He had the typical small-town life of chores, going to school, and getting into mischief. After high school he married his high school sweetheart Ruth Lott of Mount Pleasant, Utah. They quickly settled in and eventually had a family of 8 children. With a large family, Dad was always working to support us while our mom worked to raise the family. Dad was always there to support us at school and sporting events when he could be. He always felt that his greatest accomplishment was his children. Don was a happy man and made others feel happy while they were around him. He had a witty sense of humor and always had a quick come back. We will all miss his laugh. He was very giving and loving to those he met. "Well, Howdy!" was his greeting at the door or on the phone. Don had three passions in life. He loved to fix and repair heavy equipment and was known in town as the Cat mechanic. He was highly respected for his mechanical abilities. His work took him to the state of Washington where they lived for 10 years. They returned to Vernal upon his retirement. He also loved motorcycles. He and Mom would disappear for several days on a motorcycle trip until her passing. Later he and Sally were doing the same thing, off somewhere with the wind in their faces. He also loved to do woodworking. Many times, you could find him late at night in his wood shop working away, making cedar chests, rocking chairs, lamps, cradles, and funny looking animals and tops. He will be remembered for his great personality, quick witty comments, and ability to make friends fast. Once a friend always a friend. Don was married to his first wife Ruth for 50 years when she passed from leukemia. He married Sally Chivers and they have shared a life together for 17 years. He and Sally enjoyed long car and motorcycle trips, working in the Vernal Temple, and just loved each other's company. He is survived by his wife Sally Chivers Clement, his children Carol & Marvin Ainge, Ken & Jeanne Clement, Anita & Brian Spendlove, Steven & Kristine Clement, Wesley Clement, Pamela Clement and Robert Clement. Between his 2 marriages he is survived by 31 grandchildren, 73 great- grandchildren and 2 great-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Ruth L. Clement and a son, David Brian Clement. A viewing for family and friends will be held Friday, May 6, 2022, from 6-8 PM at the Ashley Valley Funeral home, 410 N 800 W Vernal, UT, and Saturday May 7 from 9:30-10:30 at the Glines Stake Center, 78 S Aggie Blvd. Funeral services will be held Saturday, May 7, 2022, at 11:00 AM at Glines Stake Center.
