Doris Karren Burton was born March 16, 1932 to Victor and Stella Karren. Doris passed away at her home on June 17, 2015 surrounded by her loving family. She married Troy Burton in Elko, Nevada on March 29, 1951. She is the mother of Dennis Kim and Julie Ann Burton.
Doris is proceeded in death by her parents, Vic and Stella; and brother, Dick Karren. She is survived by husband, Troy Burton, Children Dennis Kim and Julie Ann Burton. Grandchildren: Brandon Brooks, Mandy Lane and Brooke Macias. Great-Grandchildren: Brayden and Brennen Brooks, Quayd Lane, and Stella and Moses Macias.
Doris' life was entwined with the history of Blue Mountain and Uintah County. She was born in Vernal and was taken to a little dirt floor, dirt roofed log cabin on the mountain, when she was six weeks old and spent her summers there and moved to Vernal for the winters.
She attended Uintah High School and Utah State University and later became the Director of Uintah County Library. She established the Regional History Center and retired as Library Director and Director of the History Center.
She received numerous prestigious honors and awards. Her latest being the Chamber of Commerce. "Life Time Achievement award" in 2013.
Doris wrote hardback books including Uintah County History, Scratching the surface, Settlements of Uintah County History, Digging Deeper. Behind Swinging Doors, Colorful History of Uintah County. Blue Mountain Folks, Their Lives and Legends. Other books written by Doris: Silver Stars and Jail Bars an account of Uintah County Sheriffs, Queen Ann Bassett Alias Etta Place, Dinosaurs and Moonshine, Blue Mountain Moments, a book of poetry. Editor of The Outlaw Trail Journal from 1994-2006, at the Uintah County Library Regional History Center.
Funeral services will be held on June 20, 2015 at 11AM at the Ashley 3rd Ward Chapel (235 East 600 South). A viewing will be held at the Ashley Valley Funeral Home Friday evening from 6-8PM and Saturday one hour prior to services at the Chapel. Interment will be in the Rockpoint Cemetery under the direction of the Ashley Valley Funeral Home.
