Earl Francis Gross

February 4, 1936 — September 21, 2018

Earl Francis Gross, 82, died at home peacefully in his sleep on Sept. 21, 2018. Born Feb. 4, 1936 in Vernal Utah to Johnny Francis Gross and Blanche Scott, he graduated from Uintah High School in 1954. He married Norma Jean Hacking on Oct. 21,1956. Earl grew up in Jensen,Utah and worked at Dudley Chicken Farm through high school. After Earl and Jeanne were married, they moved to Bonanza, Utah and he worked at American Gilsonite. They moved to Vernal in 1968. They bought The Lazy River Cafe in Jensen about 1980 when he quit working at American Gilsonite Company. Earl ran the caf until 1984. He then worked with his sons in their logging and log home businesses until 2008 when he retired. Earl was the secretary for the American Gilsonite Credit Union for about 35 years. Earl coached The Vernal Dinahs womens fast pitch softball team, numerous other womens and girls softball teams and several boys baseball teams; and he was the commissioner of the ASA softball association. He enjoyed bowling, fishing, hunting, watching softball and baseball at the ball park and watching sports on TV. Earl is survived by his wife Jeanne, daughters Debbie (Todd) Hadlock, Jeanne (John) Wood, Angie (Greg) Henline, son Kim (Tami) Gross, daughter-in-law Charlene Gross, sisters Helen Peterson and Doris Stocks, 26 grandchildren, and 26 great-grandchildren. He is preceded in death by son Danny Gross; grandson Brad Gross; his parents; brothers Harold Cook, George Gross, and Ray Dean Gross; and sisters Bernice Ainge, Jean Richens, Leah Mitchell, and Eva Hullinger. Services will be held Wednesday, September 26, 2018, at 11:00 a.m. at the Vernal 6th Ward Chapel ,850 W 100 N, Vernal, UT. A viewing will be held Tuesday, September 25, 6 to 8 p.m. at the Ashley Valley Funeral Home and Wednesday, 9:45-10:45 a.m. at the church. Interment will be in the Rockpoint Cemetery. The family would like to thank the staff at Ashley Regional Medical Center and Canyon Hospice for their care. Also thank you to the Vernal 6th Ward Relief Society for their compassionate service.
