Ellen Shurtz, of Vernal Utah, passed away on October 14, 2026. She was born on September 28, 1949, to Bert and Adel Adams.
Ellen will be remembered for her warmth, quiet strength, and devotion to her family. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend. Ellen brought joy and happiness into the lives of everyone who met her. She would do anything for anyone. She loved everyone and everyone couldn’t help but love her.
She is survived by her husband Micheal E Shurtz, their children Sheri, Angie (Lindsay), Micheal D (Bobbie), grandchildren Vanessa (Oliver), Adam, Zachary, Alexander, Mikela (Joey), Mikah, Gwenneth, Elliott, great-grandchildren Matilda, Paxton, Zoey, sister Rebecca (Donel), brothers Jim (Charlene), Bob (Susan), Russ (Mary), Doug (Gabriella). Anyone who knows Ellen knows she wasn’t a person to do things on a whim, except maybe one time. She met, instantly fell in love, married her husband all within a few days. She would always say that was the one thing she was glad she didn’t hesitate to do.
She had several titles, here are only a few: Mom, Mommy Lady, Grandma, Grand Mommy, Auntie Onion, Elly Welly. She was proud and loved everyone one of them. She was active in church. She was a patriot guard and was proud to stand and support those who stood for us.
She had several hobbies; her best-known hobby was painting. She combined her love of nature into her love of painting.
Those who wish to honor Ellen may share a memory, attend one or both services, or make a donation. She loved all plants and flowers. She loved to watch them grow and flourish, if sending flowers, consider a potted flower.
She was born in Ogden, Utah, however she lived in several states and a couple of countries while being able to support her Veteran husband in his career. She was a caregiver at heart. She loved taking care of people. When her children were grown and didn’t need her to care for them, she decided to open her home to adults who needed caring for.
