Fern Long of Vernal returned to her Heavenly Father and into the arms of her beloved husband on July 22, 2026, at the age of 84. Fern was born October 28, 1941, to Brigham Sherman young and Ila Marchant Young in Roosevelt, Utah. She graduated from Union High School in 1959 then married her eternal love, Lowell D. Long September 28, 1959, in the Salt Lake City Temple.
Fern was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She was very devoted and her faith got her through many trials. She had several callings, but her favorite was church librarian.
Fern was an accomplished seamstress. She and her daughters even designed and sewed their own wedding dresses. She taught sewing in 4H and loved all the girls she taught. She enjoyed crafting Christmas stockings that fit the personality of each person she made them for, another favorite was Christmas ornaments especially if she could get her kids or grandkids involved. She loved a high stakes game of UNO or Yahtzee, and doing puzzles and had quite a collection. Fern will be missed for her quiet wisdom and strength.
She is survived by her children: Bryan (Sheila) Long, Paul Long, Debbie (Dennis) Atwood, Carolyn (Clyde) Eldredge, Kevan (Charlotte) Long, Kent (Rebecca) Long. Brothers: Sherman (Rosalie) Young, James (Diane) Young, David (Maryann) Young. Sisters: Noreen Hansen, Marilyn Phillips. Son-in-law Cully Stevens and numerous grandkids and great grandkids.
She is proceeded in death by her parents, Brigham Sherman and Ila Young, husband Lowell D, daughter MaryAnn Stevens, sisters: Melinda Norton, Elva Kornegy and grandson Devan Paul Long.

Services for Fern will be held on July 30, 2026, at 11:00 AM at the Naples 3rd Ward Chapel 2313 S 1500 E. A viewing for family and friends will be held that same morning from 9:45am ~ 10:45am. Interment will be in the Maeser Fairview Cemetery.
