Francis "Buck" Hall

February 4, 1941 — November 3, 2025

Vernal

Francis "Buck" Hall passed away on November 3, 2025 at the age of 84 after a battle with sepsis. Buck was born on February 4, 1941 to Emmett A Hall and Irene Wilcoxson in Vernal, UT.

Buck joined the US Navy at the age of 17. He found a new lease on life in the Navy. The Navy was his saving grace at the time. He earned his GED, and went on to attend technical school to become an electrician at Great Lakes, IL.

While on leave from the Navy, Buck married the love of his life, Glena Jackson on December 22, 1959. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Salt Lake Temple of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints on June 21, 1961. He had to leave his new bride shortly after the wedding to return to his post. Buck served our country for 4 ½ years. He served 1 West Pac tour of 9 months aboard the U.S.S. Hornet, and 2 West Pac tours aboard the U.S.S. Coral Sea.

In the early years of their marriage, Buck and Glena were blessed with 2 children, Mellodie and Douglas. After tragically losing their baby boy, Buck and Glena then moved back to their hometown of Vernal, UT. Here they were blessed with another daughter, Susan. The family then moved to Orem, UT where they were blessed with 2 sons, David and Bart. Eventually, the family moved back to Vernal. Here tragedy struck the family again, and Bart returned home to Heavenly Father. Joshua was born a year later and completed our family.

While living in Orem, Buck met Larry Clegg who became his best life-long friend. They served together in the Bishopric of our ward. Their motto was, "Ask for forgiveness, not permission". I'm sure they were responsible for many headaches for the Stake President. They have enjoyed many special experiences and memories. We are happy to include the Clegg family as a part of our family.

Buck made a living as a contractor for most of his life. He was a brick and block mason for many years. He then owned and operated his own hotshot company until the oilfield busted one more time. He returned to masonry, until building trends changed, and he switched over to stucco. His final occupation was his favorite; he loved being a farmer. He loved the ranch of his retirement where he raised alfalfa and goats for a while. He loved watching the baby goats. He gained his most beloved dog on the ranch. Bo was the most spoiled Chocolate Lab there ever was.

Buck hired Miguel Delgado to work in his stucco company in 1993. They became fast friends. Miguel worked hard with Buck and soon became an integral part of the Hall Co. They became such good friends that Buck made a trip to Mexico to meet Miguel's family. Miguel stood by Buck through some very tough times. We're grateful to also include Miguel as a part of our family.

Buck loves the outdoors. He loves hunting, fishing, hiking, horseback riding, four wheeling, gardening, and watching nature. His happy place was on the mountain with his family. He loves watching the hawks and owls in the field. He loves hearing the birds, and watching the rabbits in the yard.

Buck always grew a beautiful garden. It was his passion and his pride and joy. He had a small garden in the city, and a large garden that helped supplement the family's income in Vernal. He loves flowers of all kinds. He planted and grew the most beautiful rose garden at their home in Riverton. Leaving that rose garden to move to Vernal was hard for Buck. Even when Buck and Glena became empty nesters, he grew a large garden. He loves starting flowers and vegetable plants in his work room in their home. He would start planning the garden and planting plants indoors in January some years.

Buck is very talented. He excelled at leather tooling, engraving, wood work, etching, and his first ever airbrushed painting of an eagle is amazing. He was a pilot and loved to fly. Buck was a perfectionist when it came to building things. Everything had to be just right. He loves to read, especially history. He also loves music. He enjoyed playing his guitar and singing.

Buck is a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He held many callings, his favorite being a Scout Master. He loved working with the boys and teaching them about the outdoors. Taking them on hikes seemed to be an activity he really enjoyed.

Glena is the love of his life and was his top priority. He is very concerned for her health and happiness, especially when it became just the two of them at home. HIs main focus was taking care of his wife. His family was his whole world. He loves his kids, and grandkids, and is especially enamored with his 3 great-granddaughters.

Buck is survived by his loving wife Glena. Children Mellodie (Dan) Zufelt, Susan (Claude) Wells, David (Becky) Hall, and Joshua (Laura) Hall. Grandchildren Jill (Brian) Joseph, Eric (Kyrstin) Wells, Nicki (Barry Murray) Zufelt, Joshua Hall Jr,, Emma Hall, and Audrey Hall. Great-grand daughters Norah Joseph, Elisabeth Wells, and Katarina Wells.

Buck is preceded in death by his sons Douglas and Bart; his parents and siblings; his special Mother-in-Law Bernice and his Father-in-Law Glen whom he never met; and several brothers and sisters-in-law.
