Gay (Farr) Hales

October 29, 1937 — November 25, 2023

Vernal

Gay Farr Hales returned to her Heavenly Father on November 25, 2023, surrounded by members of her family. She was 86 years old. Gay was loving, kind and talented. She set an example of Christlike love and showed charity to all. She had a humor and wit until the end and had a gift to make others feel loved. Gay was born on October 29, 1937, in American Fork, Utah. She was born to Lawrence Waldo and Ruth (Walker) Farr. The oldest of 5 children, she mothered and cherished her three sisters and one brother, and they all adored her. She grew up in Pleasant Grove and developed a special passion for horses. She graduated from High School in 1955 where she was involved in sports, clubs, music, drama and was the valedictorian of her graduating class. After High School she attended BYU on an athletic scholarship and studied physical education. On October 30, 1957, Gay married Harley Robert Hales, her first-grade sweetheart in the Salt Lake Temple. They had five children: Pam, Carolyn, Brent, Suzanne, and Sally. Together, they had many adventures hunting, square dancing, golfing, camping, skiing, traveling and being a part of the ward and the community in Vernal. Her greatest joy in life came from the love of her family and her testimony of her Savior, Jesus Christ. Her children and grandchildren knew she was their advocate, and would teach, strengthen, and care for them. She was a faithful member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints and served in many different capacities. Gay is survived by her husband of 63 years, Harley; her son-in-law, Kerry Davis; her children--Carolyn (James) Pace, Brent (Darcy) Hales, Suzanne (Audrey) Hales, Sally (Cornell) Atkinson; siblings--Beverly Bradley, Pauline Jarvis, and Micheal Farr; 24 grandchildren, 45 great-grandchildren, and 2 great-great grandchildren, with five more on the way. She was preceded in death by her mother and father, her sister, Debbie Krebs, the recent passing of her sweet daughter, Pamela Gay Davis, and two great-grandchildren, Tace Hales and Jori Duncan. Funeral Services will be held Thursday, November 30, at 1:00 pm at the Vernal 8th Ward Chapel (1499 West Hwy 40). Visitation for family and friends will be Thursday from 11:00am - 12:45 pm at the church. Interment in the Rockpoint Cemetery under the direction of the Phillips Ashley Valley Funeral Home.
