Gerald (Jerry) Louis Stewart, 83, passed away on April 30, 2026 peacefully surrounded by family.
He was born April 3, 1943 to Calvin Louis Stewart and Marjorie Schoenfeld in Salt Lake City, UT.
He grew up in Magna, UT and Star Valley, WY. He lived up on a dairy farm and loved his adventures in the mountains: hunting, fishing, hiking, and horseback riding.
He graduated from Star Valley High School and went on to serve an LDS Service mission in Maine building LDS Churches.
He met Kaye Wilkey at a M Men and Gleaners youth activity and they were married on August 11, 1967 in the Salt Lake Temple for time and all eternity.
Jerry and Kaye's love of the outdoors encouraged them to leave the city and move to Vernal, Utah and raise their 6 children on a homestead. They had many family adventures as they built their own log home and shared many cherished memories in the mountains: camping, fishing, hunting, hiking, and being together as a family.
Jerry's love of the outdoors and early old west history sparked his interest in taking his family to many mountain man rendezvous and starting his own business building mountain man clothing. His love of creating beautiful things eventually turned into stating Sawtooth Saddle Company as a family business and working with his son-in-law and several of his sons building and selling beautiful old-time saddles. His legacy continues with his children and grandchildren.
Jerry is survived by his wife, Kaye Wilkey Stewart, his children, Dan Stewart (Trudy), Cindy Warburton (Jeff), Carrie Tippets (Rick), James Stewart (Carol), Mark Stewart (Leah) and Jake Stewart. Jerry and Kaye have 36 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren.
Jerry is preceded in death by his parents, Calvin and Marjorie Stewart, and his brother Paul Stewart.
