Harmon Strecker Hodgkinson

Harmon Strecker Hodgkinson, age 81, died November 28, 2021. He was born June 14, 1940, in Vernal, Utah to Aubra William and Paula Strecker Hodgkinson. Harmon grew up in Vernal with his six sisters: Jean, Judy, Janet, Joycelyn, Jane and JoLinda. He attended schools in Vernal at Central Elementary, Uintah Jr. High, and Uintah High School, graduating in 1958. He went to Logan - Utah State University from 1958-1960, served a mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints from 1960-1962 in Alberta and Saskatchewan Canada, then finished his schooling at USU in 1965 with a degree in Range Management. Harmon worked 30 years with the Soil Conservation Service (USDA) as a Range Conservationist in Washington State, Colorado and Arizona. Harmon enjoyed working with landowners on their range land management opportunities. During the last 15 years he worked with Soil Scientists developing Soil Surveys. His job was to correlate plant communities to the various soils mapped and make interpretations for land use and management. He enjoyed conducting special studies and published the results in The Journal of Range Management and Rangelands publications. Harmon wrote many articles on range management for the benefit of landowners in the areas where he worked. As a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, Harmon was active all his life and held numerous positions in wards and stakes including 12 years as a temple ordinance worker in the Vernal Temple. Harmon is survived by his wife Jeanette; children: Nancy, Brenda, Denise, and Jody; grandchildren: Carter, Lauren, Dallin, Clayne, Riley, Evelyn, Gregor, Ellie, Owen, Madeline, Robyn, Rohnin, and Zane; sisters: Judy, Janet, Joycelyn, and JoLinda. He is preceded in death by his parents: Aubra and Paula; sisters: Jean and Jane. Thanks and gratitude is given to Canyon Home Care and Hospice (Kim, Tiffany, and Amanda). A private family graveside service was held Thursday, December 2, 2021 at the Vernal Memorial Park.
