Helen Fitzsimmons

Helen Ruth Nichols Fitzsimmons passed away on December 23, 2025, just three weeks before her 94th birthday. Helen was born January 12, 1932, to Bertha Viola Loveland Nichols and Herbert Benjamin Nichols in Ankeny, Iowa. Helen married Evan L. Fitzsimmons on December 20, 1953, in Pasadena, California.

As an adult, Helen was a member of the United Methodist Church. She earned a degree in Elementary Education from Los Angeles State College and taught at schools in California, Oklahoma, and Utah. As the wife of an Air Force pilot, she held her family together in the midst of many military transfers and the frequent absences of her husband fulfilling his military duties. Helen had varied interests and loved to travel all around the United States and abroad.

She is survived by her daughter, Fonda Greenwood (Charlie); son, Kent Fitzsimmons (Jill); five grandchildren; eleven great grandchildren; treasured nieces and nephews, and friends.

Helen is preceded in death by her parents, Herbert and Bertha; her husband, Evan; her oldest son, Paul; and all eleven of her siblings.

Memorial service for Helen will be held Friday, January 2, 2026 at 11:00am at the Grace Baptist Church, 3816 South 2500 East, Vernal, Utah. Interment will be held at a later date at the Igo Veterans Cemetery in Igo, California. Arrangements under the direction of the Phillips Ashley Valley Funeral Home.
