Helen (Mitchell) Mecham

Helen Mitchell Mecham, our beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt and friend, passed away February 5, 2022, due to complications from a recent illness. Helen was three days shy of her 92 birthday. Helen was born February 8, 1930 in Roosevelt, Utah to Katie (McKowen) and Gordon Young Mitchell. She was the youngest of the five children during the Great Depression. Helen grew up in Orem and worked on a fruit farm with her family. Helen graduated from Lincoln High on May 24, 1948 and married Merrill Mecham the following day in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. Helen and Merrill moved to Uintah County where they raised their four children: Greg, Loye Ann, Caye, and Bart. They first lived in Lapoint, then summers in a cabin on their Deep Creek ranch and later a house in the city. Helen enjoyed gardening, family history, quilting, crocheting, sewing, cooking and being with her family. Helen served as a temple worker at the Provo and Vernal LDS Temples. Helen served in many church callings and was able to serve on a family history mission with her husband Merrill before his passing in February 2008. Helen's smiling face greeted all that met her and will be sorely missed. Helen is survived by her children Caye (Kirk) Stradinger and Bart (Ellen) Mecham, 18 grandchildren, 51 great-grandchildren, and 2-great-great-grandchildren. Helen is preceded in death by her husband Merrill, son Gregory Merrill Mecham, daughter Loye Anne Manwaring, parents Katie and Gordon, brothers Warren and Albert, sisters Lenore (Eldon) Hendricks and Clarice (Gene) Lloyd. A special thanks to the nurses and caregivers at the Landmark Assisted Living for their gentle care of Helen. A very special thanks to Canyon Hospice, especially Marci Duke and Abby Richards. Funeral services will be held Friday, February 11, 2022, at 11:00 AM at the Phillips Ashley Valley Funeral Home. A visitation for family and friends will be held Thursday evening from 6-8 PM and Friday 9:45-10:45 AM all at the Phillips Ashley Valley Funeral Home. Interment will be in the Vernal Memorial Park.
