Irene June Atkins

Irene June Atkins, age 53 of Vernal, passed away on Monday, March 9, 2026, in Vernal, Utah.

Irene served as a Lieutenant of the Uintah County Sheriff's Office for 20 years, dedicating her career to public service and the safety of her community. Irene loved gardening and caring for her yard, making it a beautiful place for friends and family to enjoy. Above all, she cherished spending time with her Husband and Children. Irene was a dedicated wife and best friend to her husband, Tex.

Irene is survived by her husband, Tex Atkins; her mother, Dina Jane Lewis; her children, David John (Katherine) Brown, Stephanie Kay Brown, Kevin Bradley Murray; and the sparkle of her eye, her granddaughter, Davie June Brown, Her brothers Gene Fulmer and John Fulmer.


Visitation and viewing for family and friends will be held Thursday, March 19, 2026, from 6:00 pm ~ 8:00 pm at the Phillips Ashley Valley Funeral Home. Following the visitation, Irene will be cremated, per her wishes. There will be a celebration of life later this summer. Services under the direction of the Phillips Ashley Valley Funeral Home.
