Janette (Jan) Cecila Thomas passed away peacefully on March 8, 2026, at her home in Vernal, Ut with loved ones by her side. She was born April 30, 1953, in Albuquerque, NM to Frank & Barbara Schwarz. Being born into a military family, they made many moves in her younger years but in 1973, at age 20, she moved to Vernal to make it her home and raise a family.
She is Proceeded in death by her Grandparents: Frank & Thelka Schwarz~ Parents: Frank Schwarz & Barbara Lacey ~Brother: Frankie Schwarz~ half-brother: Len Lacey She is Survived by her beloved husband Tommy Thomas of 29 yrs, ~ Sons: Chris and Chad Rogers~ Foster Son: Nathan~ Foster daughter: Jodie Sister: Sherry (Jim) Saddler~ Brother: Ed (Debbie) Schwarz, Half-sister ... Shannon Lacey. Her wonderful grandchildren.... Donavan (Brylie)~ Jahden (Dalton), Christain~ Alicia (Matt)~ Kylie~ Taylor~ her 7 great grandchildren and all of her nieces & nephews. Also including all the children from her husband's family that she took into her heart & life.
In 1996, Jan married the love of her life, Tommy Thomas. She was blessed to spend 29 yrs with his support in many ways, whether it be with family, fighting cancer in 1998 & 2026, or helping raise Nathan, their special needs foster son. Her kindness and spirit touched countless lives in ways she never realized. She had a way of making family & friends feel special and loved. Her joy came from giving & helping others and the times she spent with her little great grandchildren. Jan was a woman of faith, knowing Jesus Christ was her Lord & Savior. Her Legacy & Life is best described in .... Galatians 5:22-23 - The Fruit of the Spirit "But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control"
After working in retail for several years, she went to work in the community at the Uintah Care Center "day program" for the elderly. In 1998 she went to work for Rise Services as a direct support professional, helping & caring for the disabled in our community. In 2003, still in the Rise Services program, she became a "professional parent" to Nathan taking him into their hearts & home to raise & care for him until 2023 when her health wouldn't allow it any longer.
Our family wants to express our heartfelt gratitude and thanks to Good Shepard for their care in making our loved one comfortable.
Funeral services for Janette will be held Saturday March 21, 2026 at 12Noon. Visitation and viewing for family and friends will be Friday from 6:00pm ~ 8:00pm and Saturday from 10:45am ~ 11:45am all at the Phillips Ashley Valley Funeral Home. Interment in Vernal Memorial Park.
