Jimmy Smuin, age 85, passed away peacefully on July 19, 2024, at his home with family by his side. He was born August 19, 1938, to Hyrum Ivory and Marvel Richins Smuin in Vernal, Utah. He had three siblings, him being the third one. Darrel, Floyd and Judy. He graduated with the class of 1957 from Uintah High School. He married Barbara Jackson on June 13, 1964 and they were sealed together in the Salt Lake Temple on March 20, 1965. They raised three great children together, Kevin, Kyle, and Kim. Jimmy worked at Ed Tweets Service Station, the Gilsonite Mine, Basin Machine, Gail Eldridge (as a welder) and worked at Simplot for twenty years and retired in August 2000. He then went and helped Greg Goodrich Welding. His last job was with Glade Holmes Ouray Construction. Jimmy Loved the outdoors. He loved to hunt, fish, and enjoyed his camping trips with family. He enjoyed watching his children and grandchildren in their sporting events. He spent many summers fishing at Calder's where he met friends from out of state. He is survived by his wife of sixty years, Barbara Jackson Smuin; his children, Kevin Smuin (Cristy), Kyle Smuin (Lori Speir), Kim Crow (JC) and daughter-in-law Nickie Smuin. He is also survived by thirteen grandchildren, Dustin Smuin (Lexy), Devin Smuin (Ari), Kylie Smuin (Jaxon), Kemry Smuin (Lexi), Breklyn Smuin, Hailey (Gavin) Swenson, Hunter Reynolds (Gracie), Hydee Reynolds, Ryan and Kesley Crow, Karyn, Jodie, Garrett Speir along with ten great-grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents, Hyrum and Marvel Smuin; his brothers, Darrel and Floyd Smuin; brother-in-law Louis Labrum; sister-in-law; Joan Smuin, in-laws Bill and Madge Jackson; grandson, Derrick Smuin; and niece, Raema Goodrich. A very special thank you to Dr. Daniels and the ER staff at Ashley Regional Medical Center, Canyon Home Health (Connie, Nallely, and Paige). We don't know what we would have done without you! Also a very special thank you to Lori Speir for all she's done for our family. Funeral services for Jimmy will be held Thursday, July 25, 2024 at 11:00AM at the Davis LDS Chapel (3990 South 1500 East). A viewing for family and friends will be held Wednesday evening from 6-8PM at the Phillips Ashley Valley Funeral Home and Thursday 9:45-10:45AM at the Church. Interment will be in the Vernal Memorial Park under the direction of the Phillips Ashley Valley Funeral Home.
