Joseph Dwayne Gowen of Vernal, Utah entered eternal rest on Monday, June 23, 2025, at the Beehive Home in Maeser at the age of 74.Joe grew up in Vernal, attended Snow College, and later the University of Texas at Austin.
Joe had a long and interesting career in the petroleum industry. He lived and worked in Utah, Colorado, Wyoming, Arizona, North Dakota, and his dream job in Alaska. When not drilling a well Joe worked in the lumber industry in his beloved Montana. Joe was happiest outdoors, enjoying hunting, fishing, and hiking every opportunity he had.
Joe was born November 12, 1950 to Henry Hampton Gowen, and Elsie Leona Gowen (Dyess) In Olney, Texas. He was welcomed by his brother, Dale. Shortly after, baby sister came on the scene in 1954. The family began their trek to the West, arriving in Wyoming, from there they worked their way to Vernal and put down roots. Joe was preceded in death by his parents, his brother Dale and his wife Jan Gowen (Williams), his nephew Heath Bryant, nephew Russell Gowen, niece Michele Frederick (Gowen). Joe is survived by his sister Brenda (Preston) Bryant, niece Ashley (Keenan) Anderson, nephew Richard (Alisha) Gowen, niece Nikki (Skyler) Ruud. Joe resided at the Beehive Home for many years, a heartfelt thank you to the staff (better known to Joe as his girls) who took excellent care of him, and the residents who treated him like a brother. Thank you Nikki for stepping up after your dad passed to manage his care. Thank you Connie, Joe's hospice nurse from Canyon Hospice for treating him with respect, always encouraging. He really liked you, and your easy going style. Joe requested cremation services under the direction of the Phillips Ashley Valley Funeral Home. He will be buried next to his parents at Ashland Cemetery under the direction of Croley Funeral Home, Diana, Texas.
