John 14:27 "Peace I leave with you, my peace I give unto you" Marva Joy Kay, known as Joy to all who knew her, passed away on February 5, 2025 at the age of 87. Joy lived a full life mostly in Naples and Vernal Utah, where she married her high-school sweetheart, Lawrence Clifton Kay (Lanny). Together, they had three sons (Robert, John, and Paul). Joy centered her life around people she loved and her faith in Jesus Christ. She served faithfully in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, but she particularly loved serving with the young women and in the temple. In her latest years, she loved to attend services at the Naples BeeHive Home every Sunday. She surrounded herself with mementos of joy-kissing angels, photographs of her family, gifts from the people around her, the color purple, and always a bowl of candy. The blankets she crocheted over the years can be found in many homes. Even when she could no longer use a crochet hook, she gifted people blankets she had crocheted with chunky yarn and her fingers. Her family was her greatest treasure, and as she raised her children, she often opened her heart and home to those in need, teaching by example about love and charity. As time went on, she embraced her role as a grandmother and was instrumental in the lives of her grandchildren, spending weeks in the Midwest, and weekends at the cabin picking wildflowers and playing stickball in the yard. Joy is survived by her sons, Robert (Teresa) Kay and Paul (Leslie) Kay, her 10 grandchildren, and her 19 great-grandchildren. Though surrounded by people she loved, Joy has also mourned the losses of her love (Lanny Kay), her parents (Linus and Josephine Openshaw), all of her siblings and her son John Kay and daughter-in-law Janel Kay. She has found peace as she has reunited with them beyond the veil. The family would like to thank the Naples Beehive Home, Canyon Hospice, and the countless people who have shown love to Joy in these last difficult years of her life. In lieu of flowers, consider donating to the LDS Humanitarian Fund or share a box of chocolates with a senior or someone in need of some love. Funeral services will be held Monday, February 10, 2024 at 11:00AM at the Naples 1st Ward LDS Chapel (2313 South 1500 East). A visitation for family and friends will be held Monday 9:45-10:45AM at the Church. Interment will be in the Vernal Memorial Park under the direction of the Phillips Ashley Valley Funeral Home.
