Larry Marvin Pilling

Larry Pilling passed away in Vernal Utah on October 10th, 2019 peacefully surrounded by his family. Larry was born in Spring Canyon on March 22nd, 1939 to Myrtle and Bert Pilling. Larry grew up on the ranch in Range Creek, he did a lot of hard work as a young man trying to build the ranch in the 40s with his parents. From Sunnyside to the Ranch was a 12-hour horse ride. Larry Graduated from Carbon High in Price Utah 1957. Larry Served for four years in the United States Navy aboard the USS Maury AGS-16, this ship was used for surveillance and Survey missions in the North and black sea. His favorite ship was the USS Paiute ATF-159. During this time Larry was docked in Edinburgh, Scotland where he met and courted Winni Smith. Larry was then united in marriage to Winni on March 10th, 1959 in Price, UT. This union was blessed with four daughters. They would spend the next 60 years madly in love and always together. Larry was employed by Quest Star Gas for 38 years. During this this time he was instrumental in the startup of natural gas and pipeline projects. Larry supported the community by membership of the Elks Lodge Vernal as a trustee. He also served at the Golden Age center with all kindness and generosity for the seniors, he also was a great mentor to the individuals on work release. Larry also worked as a Maintenance Director for senior housing. His kindness and work ethic again gained all respect from seniors. Larry loved camping, yard work, Friday night dancing, his grandkids, great grandkids and most of all his wife. Larry is survived by his loving wife of 60 years Winni Pilling, Vernal; Children, Cindy(Joe Maguire) St George UT; Sylena (Daryl Colton) Vernal; Shelly(Lon Handley) Phoenix AZ; Heather(Kevin Stark) Salt Lake. Larry had 8 grandkids and 10 great grandkids. Larry is proceeded in death by his parents. Funeral services will be held Friday, October 18, 2019 at 11:00am at the Phillips Ashley Valley Funeral Home. A viewing for family and friends will be held Thursday evening from 6-8pm and Friday 9:45-10:45am all at the Phillips Ashley Valley Funeral Home.
