Leo Rolfe Speirs passed away at his home surrounded by his family on September 25, 2014 at the age of 89. He was born August 11, 1925 in Park City, Utah to Lee and Mary Rolfe Speirs. After high school he went in the Navy. He served for three years during World War II. After the Navy, he went to work at Pacific Bridge. For a short time he worked with his stepfather in the mine. When the mines closed he decided to go back to college at Logan. He met Glendell North in 1946. They were married June 14, 1948 in Heber, Utah. They were later sealed in the Salt Lake City LDS Temple.
He graduated from college in 1952 and went to work at Hill Air Force Base. He went to work for Meadow Gold Dairy and got transferred to Vernal in 1964. He worked for the dairy for 19 years.
He bought into the Wonder Bread franchise in Roosevelt. He went to work for C & H distributing for a while, then bought into the Wonder Bread franchise in Vernal with Jim Rhoades. He was there even after he retired in 1990. He bought a small farm in the Glines area that allowed him to teach and work alongside his son and grandsons. Even when it was hard for him to get around, Leo kept all of the cattle records and was there for all the brandings even if it meant sitting in his Jimmy outside of the corral.
He is preceded in death by a brother-in-law Don Clayburn, son-in-law Michael Durbin. He is survived by his wife Glendell, his sister Jackie Clayburn, his daughter Carolyn Durbin, his son Earl (Barbara), grandsons, Casey (Jocelyn) Speirs, Daryl (Stephanie) Speirs, Marccus Durbin, his great granddaughter Brooklyn Speirs who loved her "Pa Leo".
Leo, we thank you for the values you passed onto your children, grandchildren, and great grandchild. We love you and will miss you greatly.
Funeral services will be held Monday, September 29, 2014 at 11AM at the Ashley Valley Funeral Home (410 North 800 West, Vernal). A viewing will be held Sunday evening from 6-8 PM at the Ashley Valley Funeral Home and Monday 9:45-10:45AM prior to the services. Interment will be in the Vernal Memorial Park with military honors provided by the American Legion Post 11 and the U.S. Navy.
