Lois Freestone

June 15, 1916 — September 19, 2012

Lois June Marchant Freestone died September 19, 2012 at home from causes incident to age, Lois was born June 15, 1916 in Peoa, Utah to Franklin O. and Eleanor H. Marchant. She graduated high school in Peoa and attended business school in Salt Lake City for two years. Shortly thereafter she journeyed to Vernal and met her lifetime companion and husband Mark A. Freestone. They were married October 15, 1940 in Wellington, Utah. The rest of their lives were spent in Vernal living in the home Mark built in 1946. Mark died on July 10, 1993.

Lois was member of the LDS church and was sealed to Mark for all time and eternity on April 21, 1999.

Lois worked for many years at radio station KVEL when it was located in the basement of the old Hotel Vernal. She spent her last working years at Sowards Gas Co. as a secretary.

She dearly loved playing the piano and organ and was completely self-taught. She was a faithful member of the DUP for many years. One of her greatest joys in life was to work in the annual vegetable garden. She was always checking out the back window for the first sign of eatable items so she could rush out and begin the harvest. Several days each week were also spent vigorously walking at various locations around town that had the appropriate facilities, the last being the Freestone Walking Park. She was always deeply health oriented and manifested this by her preparation of great tasting but healthy meals. When bad weather set in and she was confined to the house, she would spend her exercise time on a treadmill which she continued using faithfully well into her 90's.

Lois had many interests which she spent much of her time "perfecting". Her greatest concern was to keep her home absolutely spotless at all times. Other interests included collecting of dolls, stuffed animals (bears) and many varieties of teapots. She also loved reading with her favorite being the Mary Higgins Clark novels. Traveling was also one of her favorite interests, not especially where to, but just someplace different. The careful examination and trying out of all new public eating places rated high on her priority list. One annual event demanded by many family members was the distribution of her ever-famous Christmas homemade sugar cookies. She would send these cookies all over the country to family members. We always told her to stop sending so much because of the high cost of postage but despite our advice the tradition continued.

Lois was well liked and respected by all with whom she came in contact with. She was always there with a helping hand for family, friends or any others in need. She will be greatly missed by all. We are confident that all her suffering is over and she has now returned home and now knows and understands Gods wonderful plan of eternal life.

Lois is survived by her two children, Sandra (Butch) Boren and Gary (Vela) Freestone, 11 grandchildren, 31 great grandchildren and 3 great great grandchildren.

Funeral Services were held Tuesday, September 25, 2012 at the Vernal 5th Ward LDS Chapel (200 West 250 North) at 12Noon. A viewing was held 9:45~11:45 prior to the services. Interment was in the Vernal Memorial Park.
