Lyle Wayne Gillman

Lyle Wayne Gillman passed away on Tuesday, February 18, 2025. He passed away in the home he loved and shared with Lori, his wife of 49 years. Lyle was born November 20, 1952 to Kenneth H. and Madge Hooley Gillman. He was the middle of 5 siblings, Leona (Royal) Christensen, Gordon (Sherry), Bill, and Lisa (Kevin). He grew up in Lindon, Utah, and graduated from Pleasant Grove High in 1971. While in high school he played football, wrestled and had a dang good time. He attended Utah State University in Logan for one year and then served an LDS mission in Ireland. Upon his return, he went back to Logan. In 1974, he met Lori Butler at church in the Golden Toaster. They married in August of 1975. Lyle graduated from Utah State University and was a proud Aggie his whole life. In 1978, Lyle and Lori moved to Vernal and started their teaching careers. Lyle taught Chemistry and Physics for 35 years at Uintah High School, making science fun with activities like fermentation and freezing point labs (aka brewing beer and making ice cream) and blowing stuff up. He really loved blowing stuff up (including himself on more than one occasion). He was also fortunate enough to be a coach and adviser for many extracurricular activities like wrestling, football, Student Council and Fishing Club to name a few. Teaching meant everything to Lyle, and he genuinely loved his students. Lyle loved the community of Uintah educators and administrators he worked with, and they were his closest friends. Lyle and Lori have 2 daughters, Carly (Paul) Hendrickson, and Hanah (Ash) Ewaniuk. They have two amazing Grandsons, Everett and Jameson Ewaniuk. In lieu of sending flowers, please consider donating to uintahschoolsfoundation.org Funeral services will be held Saturday, February 22, 2024 at 3:00pm at the Davis 2nd Ward LDS Chapel (4080 South 2500 East). Viewing and Visitation will be held Friday from 6:00pm ~ 8:00pm at the Phillips Ashley Valley Funeral Home and Saturday 1:45pm ~ 2:45pm at the church. Interment will be in Vernal Memorial Park under the direction of the Phillips Ashley Valley Funeral Home.
