Lyle (Whitey) Holmes

Lyle Homes passed away on January 27, 2022, at the age of 95. Lyle was born on August 19, 1926, to Emma Christine and William Holmes in Vernal, Utah. Whitey married Alma Lauretta Reynolds on April 12, 1947, in Vernal, Utah. Whitey enjoyed hunting, fishing, shearing sheep and working with livestock. He was devoted to his family and loved his grandchildren deeply. He was a hardworking man and was always willing to help when and where he was needed. Whitey served in the United States Army and was proud to have served. He always said he learned to cook and peel potatoes when he worked for his "rich uncle". When he returned from overseas, he helped his family with the farm and livestock, sheared sheep, worked as a roustabout, mined coal, and raised a family. He cut and wrapped meat for 13 years. Whitey is survived by his children: Lorin Reed (Susan) Holmes, Elaine Holmes (Clement, deceased) Garcia; grandchildren: Brooke Holmes (Logan) Barratt, Felicia Holmes (John) Gardner, Gabriel Wallace Holmes, Christopher (Mindy) Anderson, April Ann Garcia, Shiloh Garcia, Courtney Anderson (Jas) Gardner, Katie Jo Anderson Calvert, and Cory B. Anderson; 16 great grandchildren and 2 great-great-grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his wife Alma Lauretta (Bunny), parents William Wallace and Emma Holmes, siblings: Don, Barbara, Mac, Lorraine, Glade, Duane, and Glen, and son-in-law Clement Garcia. Funeral services will be held Monday, February 7, 2022 at 11:00a.m. at the Davis 4th Ward Chapel (3990 South 1500 East). A viewing for family and friends will be held Sunday evening from 6-8p.m. at the Phillips Ashley Valley Funeral Home and Monday 9:45-10:45a.m. at the Church. Interment will be in the Vernal Memorial Park with Military Honors provided by the American Legion Post 11.
