Mabel Hardy

September 27, 1925 — October 27, 2019

Heaven received an amazing angel Mabel Frances Bills Hardy returned peacefully to her Heavenly Father on October 27, 2019, at her daughters home in Salt Lake surrounded by family. She was born on September 27, 1925, in Robin, Idaho, in a log cabin with a dirt roof. She is the third child of the eight children of Harold Rolo Bills and Frances Wellard Bills. Mabel spent her early years in Idaho. She spent most of her summers sleeping out of doors in the mountains trailing her dads sheep with her family. In the winter she rode to school in a horse drawn sleigh. Mabel graduated from high school in Downy, Idaho, in 1943. She attended beauty school and college in Provo. After her schooling, she moved to Vernal where she became beauty operator for Cora Pack and married Owen Ray (Steve) Hardy. They were later divorced. She also worked at JC Penneys and retired from Zions Bank. When her children were small, she enjoyed fishing, hunting, camping, and square dancing. Later in life, she was a world traveler and adventurer with her family and loved every minute of it. She enjoyed bowling, playing canasta, and her family home evening group. She was known for gardening, canning, and cooking. She loved to share what she made with others. Mabel was a very faithful member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served in many callings. In retirement, she served a mission in the Provo and Vernal temples and in the Macon, GA, mission. Mabel is survived by her children, Cheryle (Tod) Atwood, Kathie (Merle) Muirhead, Sandy Murray (Jerry), Tami (Bill) Stevenson, grandchildren Cheri Andrus, Shelli Atwood, Shane Atwood, Scott Muirhead, Nikki Stubbs, Cherry Clark, Stephanie Murray, Lynzi Hathcock, Chet Murray, Shane Stevenson, Kristy Spaulding, Erin Curtis, Brett Stevenson, 41 great-grandchildren, 23 great-great grandchildren, and sisters Joy Brewster of St. George and Bonnie (Les) Knudsen of Pingree, ID. She is preceded in death by her parents, brothers Alex, Harold, and Terry, sisters, Mona and Margie, son in-laws Rod Murray, Merle Muirhead, Bill Stevenson, and great-granddaughter Kinsey Shaw. Mabel was able to show love to everyone while leading by example and will be greatly missed.
