Maria R (Guzman) Acevedo

August 22, 1949 — November 21, 2018

Vernal

Our sweet mama, Maria R (Guzman) Acevedo, was finally set free on November 21, 2018 Maria was born on August 22, 1949 in Guadalajara, Mexico to Cristino and Maria Guzman, the youngest of 18 children. From an early age, it was clear her purpose in life was to help others. She found her love of children as a kindergarten teacher, and then found her love of God when her path led her to become a Nun. During her 20s, Maria was transferred from Mexico to Barstow, California. With the exception of 8 years she spent caring for her mother in Mexico, Maria lived the rest of her life in the United States- eventually becoming a citizen. She briefly lived in Chicago, Illinois and raised her family mostly in Lancaster, California. In 2004, Maria and her family moved to Vernal, Utah and this is where she lived out her final years. When you met Maria, you were always greeted with a smile and a happy heart. Her daughters vividly recall their mother constantly singing and whistling during the day. She loved to cook. She made homemade tortillas every day and could barely make enough to keep up with her five childrens appetites. Maria lived her life helping others. Her home was always filled with neighborhood children she was watching. Her love for children was undeniable. Her children were her life. She was an amazing example to her son and four daughters. She was the definition of kind and loving. She was there for every major milestone in her childrens lives- including the promotion to Grandmother. She loved her 9 grandchildren fiercely. Though some of them wont remember the amazing women their Welita was, well continue to live her legacy of love and kindness. After receiving a devastating Alzheimers diagnosis in 2013, she continued to fight and hold onto hope. Despite the fear of what would eventually happen to her mind and body, Maria bravely battled this disease until her last breath. Maria is survived by her children: Sandra (Bob) Taylor, Alex (Marie) Acevedo, Blanca (Raul) Villalba, Beca (Jared) Babcock, Ruth Acevedo, and 9 grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, Cristino and Maria, and siblings. As a family, we would like to thank the staff at the Uintah Care Center for caring for our mother. Weve been blessed to have many angels with us during our mothers journey- Julia, Maddi, Chris, Doreen, Marcie, Dyani, Brooklyn. Well never be able to fully express our appreciation for your kindness and compassion. You were truly heaven sent.
