Marie (Merkley) Voyles

Marie (Merkley) Voyles, age 90 of Vernal, Utah, wife of the late Jack Lee Voyles, passed away peacefully at the home of her granddaughter's, Jacque Cole, on Saturday February 4, 2023. Marie was born in Vernal to George Albert "Bert" Merkley and Georgiana Blackburn on January 23rd 1933. She was the youngest of 12 children. Marie graduated Uintah High School in 1951. She married Jack Lee Voyles May 30th of 1952. They had 2 children, Vickie Lynne and David Lee. Marie was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. During her life she served many callings for the Church. She was a member of the D.U.P for 38 years. Marie had a servant's heart and was the President of the Utah State Bowling Association, the Utah State President for the Ladies of Elks and held many offices and various positions in all organizations she was involved in. She was a homemaker and supporter of her husband and children and extended family. She was a baker and a wonderful cook. Marie worked for the Uintah School District, school lunch program for many years. In her younger years Marie played softball and was a lifetime fan. She enjoyed bowling leagues with close friends, golfing with the Ladies Golf Organization and spending time working and being involved in the Elks. Most of all, Marie loved spending time with her family and friends and was always there supporting them anyway she could. Marie will be forever missed. She is survived by her grandchildren; Jacque (Travis) Cole, Lee (Rory) Cookman & Angela Taylor, 10 great-grandchildren, Cleone Merkley, and many nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her husband; Jack, her daughter; Vickie, her son; David and her great-grandson; Blake. Funeral services for Marie will be held Thursday February 9 at 11:00am at the Vernal 7th Ward Chapel (850 West 100 North). Visitation for family and friends will be held from 9:45am - 10:45am at the church. Interment in the Maeser Fairview Cemetery next to her beloved husband Jack. Services under the direction of the Phillips Ashley Valley Funeral Home.
