Mark Allan Tanner, a loving husband and father, passed away on April 8,
2014 after a long and well fought battle with cancer. Mark was born in
Bitburg, Germany on April 10, 1967, to Dale and Lauren Tanner and spent his
childhood in Germany, Utah, California, and New Mexico alongside his five
siblings as his father served in the armed forces.
After high school, Mark was called to the Frankfurt, Germany Mission, for
the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, where he had the
opportunity to share his love of The Lord. Upon returning home, he followed
in his fathers footsteps and joined the United States Air Force and worked
as a linguist at the National Security Agency in Maryland.
While stationed in Monterrey, CA. for language school, Mark met Sherry
Jenkins, a fellow service member who would become his best friend and future
bride. After their marriage in 1990, they welcomed four children into their
home and enjoyed them being at the heart of life.
After his service in the Air Force, Mark received both his Bachelors and
Masters Degree from Utah State University and then went on to work in
business finance.
Mark loved working shoulder to shoulder with many good people in church
callings over the years and truly enjoyed working with the youth of the
church, they hold a special place in his heart.
The perfect day for Mark was any day spent with his family, whether it was
work or play, it didn't matter as long as it was family time. He always made
them a priority in life and made certain they knew of their place in his
heart. Mark enjoyed sports of all types but his passion was tennis. He spent
many hours on the court over the years and made sure to pass on his love of
the game to all of his children.
Mark is survived by his wife, Sherry and their four children, Kelsie,
Mitchell, Courtney, and Lleyton, parents; Dale and Lauren Tanner, siblings;
Lynette (Mark) Ethridge, Lori (Justin) Byrne, Matt (Delora) Tanner, Leanne
(Danny) Johnson, sister-in-law; Marci (Chad) Akagi, and grandmother, Thelma
Tanner. He was preceded in death by his brother, Steven.
Sherry and the children would like to express their love and appreciation to
their beautiful extended family, loving friends, and a host of dedicated
medical staff who have gone not only the second mile, but well beyond, in
loving, serving, and helping the family.
