Marquita Lynn Batty Scott March 5, 1966 ~ March 4, 2026

Marquita Lynn Batty was born in Vernal, Utah on March 5, 1966 to Linford and Norlene Batty. She was their 6th child and the 3rd child that was born on March 5. Throughout her life she has enjoyed celebrating her birthday with her older sister, Lela Don and older brother, Bart. On one of her last mortal birthdays, the three of them with their spouses attended the temple followed by a birthday brunch.

Marquita loved growing up on the family ranch. A perfect day for her involved spending time with the horses, caring for them, and riding them. In particular, she loved spending time on the family's grazing land on Diamond Mountain, feeling the ever-present breeze and sun on her face while mending the fence, checking the cows, or riding the horses.

In her childhood, she participated in 4-H and in her teens in FFA. Animals were a great source of joy for her throughout her life. Her cats and dogs helped soothed the difficulties of the last few years of her life.

She was a devout member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints and served in many callings, including ministering to the emotional, physical, and spiritual needs of others.

Marquita learned to play the piano in her youth and became an accomplished accompanist, supporting choirs, vocal groups, and church services. She was also an accomplished vocalist, learning to sing in her ward choir. In her teens, she performed with the vocal show choir at Uintah High School.

Marquita was very creative and crafty. She enjoyed learning new craft forms, perfecting them, and making homemade gifts for holidays and life celebrations. She etched mirrors, cross-stitched, made decorative tile, burned wood, knitted, and crocheted. Crochet was one of her favorite pastimes, and she made many blankets and decorative pieces to brighten the homes and lives of friends and family.

Marquita has always been kind, loving, and patient, and joyfully served others. Children carried a special place in her heart, especially the four children that call her mom which include Estelle John, Sean Merkley, Tyler Batty, and Anneke Scott. Each one of her children came into her life in a different way and each is treasured and valued.

Marquita always looked for the good in every person and every situation. When difficulties arose, she found solutions and went to work, seeking to support her family, neighbors, and friends.

Marquita was the meekest of us all. She was a peacemaker and a humble follower of Christ. She noticed those who felt forgotten and reached out a hand of love and friendship with her contagious smile. She was first to laugh, first to help, and first to forgive. We will miss her in every way. Our lives, however, are better for having rubbed shoulders with her and having felt the Savior's love through her.

She is survived by her husband, Doug Scott; her children Estelle John, Sean Merkley, Tyler Batty, and Anneke Scott; her seven grandchildren; and her eight siblings. She is preceded in death by her parents Linford and Norlene Batty.
