Michael LeRoy Van

Michael Leroy "Mike" Van, age 78, passed away peacefully on July 22, 2026, with his beloved wife of 57 years, Kathie, by his side.

Mike was born on August 8, 1947, in Tooele, Utah, to Leroy Arson Van and Veda Jean Tanner Van. On June 21, 1969, he married the love of his life, Kathie Isabel Jensen, in Salt Lake City, Utah. Together they shared 57 years of love, faith, and devotion, building a life centered on family, hard work, and lasting memories.

Mike was a hardworking man who took great pride in providing for his family. He worked for the Granite School District for many years before pursuing his dream of owning and operating Mike's Glass. Through his business, he built lasting relationships with customers and earned a reputation for quality workmanship, dependable service, and honesty. He was known not only for his craftsmanship but also for his generosity, often giving others an opportunity to learn, work, and succeed. He believed in giving people a chance and found great joy in helping others succeed.

Outside of work, Mike had a lifelong passion for classic cars, muscle cars, drag racing, and auctions. He loved the thrill of finding a great bargain and was always on the lookout for his next treasure. Whether he was restoring a car, attending an auction, or meeting friends for coffee, Mike enjoyed staying busy and connecting with people.

More than anything, Mike loved his family. He treasured time with his children and grandchildren, worked hard to provide for those he loved, and was always willing to help family, friends, and neighbors. He never hesitated to lend a helping hand, offer encouragement, or simply listen. His faithful dogs, Critter and Sam, were devoted companions who loved him dearly and will miss him.

Mike was a devoted member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He cherished the friendships he built through his church community and found strength, comfort, and peace in his relationship with his Heavenly Father.

Mike is survived by his beloved wife, Kathie Van; his children, Michael W. "Bill" Van (Connie), Jason "Jake" Van (Chrissy), Stephen "Steve" Van, and Jennie Strong (Mike); Richard Williams, who was loved as a son; his grandchildren, McKay, Jhett, Jade, Rally, Kade, and Logan; his brothers, Robert "Bob" Van, Tony DeSimone, and Scott Simonich; his sister, Connie Jorgensen; and his brother-in-law, Chris Unthank.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Leroy Arson Van and Veda Jean Tanner Van; his sisters, Bonnie Unthank and Kathy Ogden; his grandson, Dalton Van; and his parents-in-law.

Mike will be remembered for his generous heart, unwavering faith, strong work ethic, and the kindness he showed to everyone he met. He leaves behind a legacy of love, service, integrity, and compassion that will live on through the family he cherished, the friendships he built, and the many lives he touched. Though he will be deeply missed, his example and the memories he created will remain in the hearts of those who knew and loved him forever.

Funeral services honoring Mike's life will be held on Thursday, July 30, 2026, at 2:00 p.m. at the Vernal 7th Ward Chapel, 850 W. 100 N., Vernal, Utah. A viewing for family and friends will be held prior to the service from 1:00 to 1:45 p.m. Following the funeral service, family and friends are invited to join the family for a luncheon at the church.
