Ned Lorenzo Gardner, age 94, passed away on June 13, 2025. Born on September 17, 1930 to Elmer and Hazel Gardner, Ned lived a full and generous life, one defined by his deep love for family, a passion for the outdoors, and a heart as big as the mountains he so dearly loved. Ned was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Marie Emma Workman Gardner, with whom he shared a beautiful life and four children, his son Jeff Gardner from a previous marriage, and four siblings (Joan Gardner Smuin, Rosalee Gardner Rowley, Kay Gardner Jackson, Ted Gardner). Ned is survived by his loving children: Guy Lee Gardner (Sue), Rick L. Gardner (Mary), Ronald Ned Gardner (Marsha), Scott L. Gardner, and Angi Mulville (Andrew) and four siblings (Don Gardner, Jack Gardner, Beth Pfiefer, Lana Jean Boren). He was a proud and devoted Papa to ten beautiful grandchildren and twelve great grandchildren. To each of them, he was a source of wisdom, strength, humor and unconditional love. Ned's greatest joy was found in being surrounded by his family. He cherished every moment spent together, especially the times when all generations gathered under one roof or went camping - telling stories, laughing, and creating memories that will live on in our hearts. He had an incredible gift for storytelling and loved to share tales from his childhood, his days in the Army and working in the oilfield. His stories captivated and connected us all. A man who loved the mountains, Ned found peace and purpose in the outdoors. Whether camping or going for rides and simply taking in the beauty of nature, he was happiest under a wide sky and among the pines and quakies. His love for the mountains was matched only by his love for people. With a warm smile and open arms, he made friends wherever he went and touched countless lives with his kindness and generosity. Ned leaves behind a legacy of love, laughter, and a life well-lived. He taught us the value of hard work, the power of family, and the importance of living each day with gratitude. Ned proudly served in the United States Army during the Korean War era. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you honor his memory by spending time with loved ones, sharing a story and telling them how much you love them. You can also consider a donation in Ned's memory to a veteran's organization of your choice. Funeral services for Ned will be held Saturday, June 21 at 2:00pm, with a visitation for family and friends from 12:00pm ~ 1:45pm all at the Phillips Ashley Valley Funeral Home. Interment in the Maeser Fairview Cemetery with Military Honors by the American Legion Post 11.
