Paul Wayne Dockery, 82, of Roosevelt passed away September 15 at the Beehive Memory Care facility in Brigham City after a lengthy battle with dementia. Paul was born August 4, 1942 in Pauls Valley, Oklahoma to Hubert and Bessie Dockery. He grew up in Purcell, OK and joined the United Stated Navy his senior year of high school. He finished his GED in the Navy and was able to see the world while aboard the USS Valley Forge. Upon being discharged from the Navy he worked in the oil and gas industry throughout the central and western United States. On June 23, 1967 he married JoAnn Stone in Vernal, Utah. They were married for nearly 54 years and were blessed with two sons, Calvin and Larry. JoAnn and Paul made their home in Vernal followed by a short stint in Southwest Wyoming, and for the last 22 years in Roosevelt, Utah. Paul and JoAnn liked to ride horses and take drives in the mountains. Paul loved back country horse packing trips in the High Uintah's with friends and family. After viewing a Border Collie sheepdog competition in the late 80s', he began teaching himself to train these dogs. He became a near master of this craft and trained dogs for many sheep and cattle farmers throughout the Intermountain West. He also had a passion for training draft horses. In over a 20-year period, he trained many horses for both competition and farm work. Paul is survived by his sons Calvin (Heather) and Larry (Jessica); grandchildren Hannah, Hailey, Kaden, Justin, Conner, and Karson; and brother Gary. He was preceded in death by his wife JoAnn, his parents Hubert and Bessie, his sister Sally Rockelman,and his brothers Ray and Wilburn Dockery. Graveside services for Paul will be held Saturday, September 28, 2024 at 12:00pm in Vernal Memorial Park. Visitation for family and friends will be from 10:30am ~ 11:30am at the Phillips Ashley Valley Funeral Home. Military Honors provided by the American Legion Post 11.
