Poppy June Platero

With broken hearts, we announce the passing of our cherished baby girl, Poppy June Platero, on July 28, 2026, at the age of seven months. Our family was not prepared to lose her so soon and deeply mourns her tragic loss. 

The name Poppy June honors her parents' deep love of nature, and she enjoyed many outdoor adventures in her short life. This shared love was evident even as a baby. While most babies recoil from touching grass, Poppy loved having her feet in it. Once her mother saw a social media post about the natural benefits of mud and babies, so one evening she stripped Poppy down and let her play in the mud. It was 15 of the happiest minutes, although Brooke had to stop Poppy from sampling the dirt.

Poppy was a curious, joyful child who brought a smile to everyone who met her. Her family celebrated seeing her reach new milestones. She recently discovered she could climb the stairs at home and loved the newfound freedom it gave her. She hated taking baths. Her favorite toy was a pink giraffe she often wanted to carry everywhere, and she loved music from The Princess and the Frog, especially "Almost There" and "Dig a Little Deeper."

She adored the family dog, Danny, who would steal the rubber ducky from the bathtub to play with Poppy. Danny would drop the toy in her lap, and she would hand it back to him over and over while cackling with delight. Her favorite game with her dad, Tommy, was "corn on the cob" where he would hold her like an ear of corn and pretend to nibble on her. Poppy would start giggling the second they started playing.

In the spring, the family celebrated Poppy's A'wee Chi'deedloh (laughing ceremony), a Navajo tradition that celebrates a baby's first laugh and welcomes joy into their life. Poppy knew she was deeply loved, and her parents cherished every smile, every new discovery, and every moment they were blessed to spend with her.

She is survived by her loving parents Brooke Lani Droesbeke and Tommy Dean Platero, her grandparents Dolores Michele Cortes and Loralie Cox, honorary grandparents Niccole Aylsworth and Stanley R. Aylsworth, and countless aunts, uncles, cousins, and other extended family who adored her.

A funeral will be held at Spanish Valley Mortuary at 386 N. 100 W. Moab, UT on August 5th at 10:00 a.m. The interment will follow at the Grand Valley Cemetery.
