Raymond Summarell

Raymond "Joe" Summarell passed away on September 30, 2025, at the age of 74. Joe was born on September 8, 1951, to JoeAnn and Ray Summarell in Roosevelt, Utah.

Joe married Shirley Louise Bolton on September 15, 1973, in the Provo Temple. Joe and Shirley were happily married for 18 years. Then a miracle happened! They had a baby girl named Shayla Louise Summarell. 8 months later tragedy struck- Shirley and Shayla were in a head on car accident on 6/10/1992. Shirley died instantly and Shayla was transported to the hospital for her injuries. Because of Joe's work Shayla had lots of babysitters, until Joe and Terry Wilson Johnson got married on 2/6/1993.

Joe enjoyed his cows, horses, dogs & other pets. He also enjoyed camping, fly fishing, working with leather and building saddles. He was involved in helping Shayla & all the kids in horse 4-H.

Shirley used to tease Joe- saying "Shayla is going to be a princess"- Joe said, "as long as it is around a cowboy hat!" He watched Shayla perform at 4-H and Rodeo Queen contests. He enjoyed helping people in any way he could.

He is survived by his wife Terry, his daughter Shayla (Weston) Rowley, Brothers Lynn (Reta) and Terry. Sisters Cindy Moore and Lisa Jensen, grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces and nephews and their families.

He is preceded in death by his first wife Shirley, his parents, his grandparents, Shirley's parents, nephew Jeremy, great nephew Hayden, brother-in-laws Doug Bolton, Doug Jensen, David Moore, Ray Anderson, and sister-in-law Patty Summarell.

Funeral services for Joe will be held Saturday, October 11 at 11:00am at the Neola 1st Ward LDS Chapel (9000 North 2000 West), Visitation for family and friends will be that morning from 9:00am ~ 10:45am all at the church. Interment in the Neola Cemetery. Services under the direction of the Phillips Ashley Valley Funeral Home.
