Rex Zufelt

Rex Zufelt, age 73, passed away at his home on February 18, 2022. He was born January 10, 1949 in Durango, Colorado to Roy and Pauline Zufelt of Redmesa, Colorado. Rex graduated from Durango High School in 1967. He was drafted into the United States Army in 1968, and was stationed in Washington, D.C. until he was honorably discharged in 1970. After his time in the service, he attended and graduated from the Incorporated Tractor Training School in Indianapolis, Indiana, where he learned to drive semi trucks. He worked as a truck driver from that time until he retired in 2016. As a young man, he also spent some time as a hunting guide, leading parties into the La Plata Mountains of Colorado. In his spare time, Rex enjoyed camping with Elaine, his bride of 41 years. Rex is preceded in death by his father, Roy Zufelt; siblings, Judy Zufelt, Roy Zufelt, and Debbie Zufelt; children, Wade Zufelt and Tracey Zufelt; and stepson, Brad Manning. Rex is survived by his spouse, Elaine Zufelt; children, Melissa Zufelt, Jennifer (Joel) Valdez, Kim (Eddie) Goff, Stephanie Zufelt, Rex Zufelt, and Cody (Sabrina) Zufelt; stepchildren, Brian (Edie) Manning, Stewart (Cammie) Thomas, and Angie (Terry) Simper; 24 grandchildren; 22 great grandchildren; mother, Pauline Zufelt; and siblings, Ray (Ann) Zufelt, Pam (Larry) Lee, Ronnie (Kathy) Zufelt, Ricky (Janet) Zufelt, and Clee (Carl) Staley. Rex's family would like to thank the nurses and caregivers of Canyon Home Hospice. Memorial Services for Rex will be held Saturday March 5, 2022 at 11am at the Napels 3rd Ward LDS Church (2313 South 1500 East). Interment will be in the Rockpoint Cemetery with Military Honors provided by the American Legion Post 11. Services under the direction of the Phillips Ashley Valley Funeral Home.
