Juanita moved her family to Colorado, where she met Paul Weaver. Paul had a daughter named Barbara, who became an older 1/2 sister to the Halbert boys. Bob never looked at Paul as a stepdad. Paul was a father to Bob until Paul's passing. Bob graduated high school from Newcastle in 1960. The day after graduation, Bob left to go serve in the Navy. Bob served his naval tour in Hawaii, until 1963. It was there, Bob discovered two of his greatest passions, playing the guitar and riding motorcycles . Two things he carried with him throughout his lifetime. After completing his service in the Navy, Bob returned to Newcastle Colorado. While there, Bob worked at basic chemical and then at a local lumberyard. It was during this time, Bob formed a relationship with Nancy R. Martin. Bob and Nancy were married on 6-27-64. Bob and Nancy raised two children, Terresa and Bobby Halbert. In 1965, while working at the lumberyard, Bob was coerced into applying for a policeman position with the Glenwood Springs Police Department. Bob was hired and began a long and distinguished career in law enforcement. Bob's law enforcement career began as a patrolman. He excelled in law enforcement, which subsequently rewarded him with promotions to Sergeant, detective, and in 1974 as chief of police and director of public safety. Bob served that position for 18 years until he retired from the Glenwood Springs police department in 1992. (Note-during this time, Bob played lead guitar with a few different bands on weekends at bars, restaurants, and special events.) After retiring, Bob and Nancy moved to Vernal, Utah. While living in Vernal Bob worked as a long haul truck driver, delivering goods all across the USA for several years. After performing a job that kept him away from home, Bob took a job as a school bus driver for the Uintah School District. Bob worked that job for over five years.
